摘要: In certain embodiments, the present invention relates to methods and kits for treating wounds, comprising the step of introducing into said wound a composition comprising at least one optionally purified inverse thermosensitive polymer, wherein said at least one optionally purified inverse thermosensitive polymer forms a gel in said wound, thereby temporarily occluding said wound. In certain embodiments, the present invention relates to the aforementioned method wherein a wound to a blood vessel or a segment of the GI tract is occluded, thereby preventing exsanguination and/or septicemia. In other embodiments, the inventive methods and kits described herein may be used to ameliorate (e.g., fill) temporarily a defect in a biological lumen, thereby strengthening said defect, preventing rupture of, or maintaining, improving or optimizing fluid flow through said lumen.

摘要: Novel surgical devices for off-pump surgery are described herein. The disclosed apparatus employs a novel suction element that releasably couples to a surgical connector. In an embodiment, a surgical device comprises a suction element adapted to be releasably coupled to a surgical connector. The suction element has an opening for stabilizing said surgical connector against the surface of an organ by suction. The surgical device further comprises a flexible arm connected to the suction element. The flexible arm is capable of being fixed in a stationary position to hold the surgical connector and the organ in place. The novel suction element in combination with a flexible arm not only positions and stabilizes an organ during surgery, but also positions and stabilizes the surgical connector on the organ during a surgical procedure such as an LVAD implantation.

摘要: The present invention relates to a device and method for warming biological fluids. The portable self-contained device which warms physiological fluids including blood is comprised of a reaction container which is capable of storing at least one chemical which when mixed with a second chemical will produce an exothermic chemical reaction, a mixing means for mixing the two chemicals to produce the exothermic chemical reaction, a heat exchanger to absorb heat from the exothermic reaction and transfer it to the physiological fluid or blood, a temperature regulating means to regulate the maximum temperature of the device and an insulating container for enclosing the reaction means, heat exchanger and temperature regulating means. The method of rapidly heating the stored cold physiological fluids including blood to about 39.degree. during infusion comprise the step of activating the physiological fluid warming device by mixing the chemicals to produce the exothermic chemical reaction and passing the physiological fluid or blood through the heat exchanger.

摘要: A device for delivery of a cardiac support device for treating cardiac disease of a heart includes a multistage deployment mechanism and an actuating mechanism for controlling the positions of the deployment mechanism. The deployment mechanism is operable to change between a retracted state and an extended state, and includes a plurality of independent stages, including, in one embodiment, a first stage including a guide structure for location adjacent a portion of the patient's heart when in the extended state. A second stage is movably coupled to the first stage, and is guided by the guide structure between the retracted and extended states. The second stage further releasably engages and supports the cardiac support device and positions the cardiac support device at the desired implantation location, guided by the guide structure of the stage. In some embodiments, the deployment mechanism may include additional stages. The actuating mechanism drives the deployment mechanism between the retracted and extended states, and independently controls the positions of the multiple stages of the deployment mechanism.
