A tube spinner for assembling vehicle tie rod assemblies is disclosed. The tube spinner includes a support structure for supporting a tapped tube, a rotating device for rotating the tube within the support structure into threaded engagement with one or more sockets simultaneously and a restraining structure for locking the sockets against rotation. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of casters are provided for supporting a tube along a main axis of the tube. Generally U-shaped tracks are placed adjacent left and right ends of the tube to prevent rotation of sockets being attached to the left and right ends of the tube. A motor driven friction wheel is brought into engagement with an outer circumference of the tube for rotating the tube along its main axis and simultaneously threading the tube onto one or more sockets.

Method and apparatus for suppression of fluid-borne noise in hydraulic or fluid handling systems, such as automotive power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and fuel systems wherein a multi-chamber solution to attenuate fluid-borne noise in the system is disclosed. This solution optimizes both damping, interference and wave cancellation mechanisms in a fluid system and consists of dividing an attenuator conduit hose or pipe assembly serially into tuning chambers by a restrictor or other mechanism. In some embodiments, a tuner is placed in each and every chamber. The number of chambers can vary between two and four depending on the objective of the attenuation. In order to attenuate the ripple at the pump, the tuner in the first or most upstream chamber can be removed.

A wear indicator insert is sandwiched in between the second bearing member and the sealing washer in a pre-compressed condition. The indicator insert includes a head that extends beyond the sealing washer until a certain amount of bearing wear is present in the joint assembly. In addition, the indicator insert cannot be wiggled until a certain degree of wear has occurred in the joint assembly.

A power take-off unit includes a hydraulically actuated brake assembly which is automatically engaged when a hydraulically actuated clutch assembly is disengaged, and further which is automatically disengaged when the clutch assembly is engaged. The power take-off unit includes a housing which contains an input gear and an output shaft. The input gear is adapted to be connected to an engine or transmission of a vehicle or other source of rotational power so as to be rotatably driven in a conventional manner. The output shaft is adapted to be connected to rotatably driven accessory, such as a hydraulic pump. The power take-off unit includes a clutch assembly for selectively providing a driving connection between the input gear and the output shaft and a brake assembly for selectively exerting a braking force to retard rotation of the output shaft. When pressurized fluid is provided from a source to a clutch chamber, the clutch assembly is engaged to cause the output shaft to be rotatably driven by the input gear. Simultaneously, the pressurized fluid is fed to a brake chamber to disengage the brake assembly and permit free rotation of the output shaft. When pressurized fluid is not provided from the source to the clutch chamber, the clutch assembly is disengaged to prevent the output shaft from being rotatably driven by the input gear. At the same time, the lack of pressurized fluid in the brake chamber to engages the brake assembly and exert the braking force to retard rotation of the output shaft.

An improved bearing is disclosed which runs without clearance, and in which any wear is retrofitted automatically. This is achieved by a bearing assembly comprising a bearing (3) having an axial split (5) and an antifriction lining, and an elastic element (4), in which the elastic element exerts a force on the bearing acting to close the axial split. The presence of a shaft (1) in the bearing (3) opens the axial split (5), creating a permanent pressure acting to close the axial split (5) in the bearing. The end of the bearing life is attained when wear is sufficient to allow the axial split to close.

A seal assembly and seal guard are provided for a bearing cup positioned on a trunnion of a universal joint. The seal assembly includes a support ring and an elastomeric seal. The support ring is generally L-shaped in cross section, having a lower radial flange that is connected to an axial portion. The axial portion of the support ring is press fit within an inner bearing surface of the bearing cup. The support ring flange extends radially outwardly adjacent the open end of the bearing cup. The elastomeric seal is disposed within the support ring axial portion. An annular elastomeric seal guard is removably secured to the seal assembly. The seal guard is generally funnel shaped. The seal guard has an upper body with an annular interior groove. The interior groove has a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the support ring flange. Thus, the seal guard can be secured to the support ring flange. The seal guard has a lower body inclined radially inwardly from the upper body. The lower body has an interior annular sealing surface. The seal guard interior sealing surface defines an inner diameter that is smaller than a diameter of a outer sealing surface along the circumference of the trunnion of the universal joint. When the bearing cup is installed on the trunnion, the seal guard engages the trunnion in a light press fit. The press fit establishes a lubrication chamber. The lubrication chamber is bordered by the trunnion, elastomeric seal, and seal guard. When filled with grease, the lubrication chamber provides a waterproof compartment to keep moisture away from the seal assembly.
