A slurry for manufacturing gypsum board is disclosed. The slurry comprises calcined gypsum, water, a foaming agent, and a thickening agent. The thickening agent of the present disclosure acts to improve the cohesiveness of the slurry without adversely affecting the setting time of the slurry, the paper-to-core bond (wet and dry), or the head of the slurry by acting as a defoaming agent or coalescing agent. Examples of suitable thickening agents include cellulose ether and co-polymers containing varying degrees of polyacrylamide and acrylic acid. A gypsum board and method of forming the slurry and the gypsum board are also disclosed. The gypsum board comprises a gypsum layer formed from the slurry.

A new photocatalytic composition is described that is designed for percolation in road surfaces. The composition contains no aggregates, but consists of cement, a photocatalyst, a superfluidifier, a viscosity modifier and an antifoaming agent, in suitable proportions. The composition is applied to porous open-graded asphalt courses, completely filling the cavities down to a thickness coming between 30 and 50 mm. The treated asphalt acquires a strong, durable photocatalytic activity, even when it is submitted to heavy mechanical loads and adverse weather conditions, as in the case of road surfaces in and out of town, liable to intense traffic.

According to the invention, a hydrogel comprising chemically modified polysaccharides and proteins is provided. Furthermore, a method is provided in order to produce a hydrogel from mixtures of polysaccharides and proteins. According to the invention, the polysaccharides and proteins are modified chemically covalently and crosslinked chemically intermolecularly by the method. The chemically derivatised polysaccharide-protein blend (abbreviated to “PPB”) which is produced according to the invention is characterised in that it forms a hydrogel in an aqueous medium. The PPB hydrogel according to the invention is characterised by a high water-binding potential and a high adhesive effect. For example in building chemistry, the PPB hydrogel according to the invention has an advantageous effect on the adhesion- and slippage behaviour of tiles.
