Abstract: A computer includes a processor and a memory, and the memory stores instructions executable by the processor to receive a plurality of initial images including traffic signs, identify the traffic signs in the initial images, and generate new images by applying manipulations to the traffic signs in the initial images. The manipulations simulate physical changes to the traffic signs.

Abstract: A system and method for forecasting perceived transitions to the four annual seasons in geographic areas is disclosed. The perceived transitions are identified by comparing forecasted daily temperatures in each geographic area to thresholds generated based on normal daily temperatures in those geographic areas. The forecasted daily temperatures may be calculated using both forecasted temperatures and forecasted perceived ambient temperatures (calculated using both temperature and humidity, cloud cover, sun intensity, and/or wind speed).

Abstract: One embodiment provides a system that facilitates efficient collection of training data. During operation, the system obtains, by a recording device, a first image of a physical object in a scene which is associated with a three-dimensional (3D) world coordinate frame. The system marks, on the first image, a plurality of vertices associated with the physical object, wherein a vertex has 3D coordinates based on the 3D world coordinate frame. The system obtains a plurality of second images of the physical object in the scene while changing one or more characteristics of the scene. The system projects the marked vertices on to a respective second image to indicate a two-dimensional (2D) bounding area associated with the physical object.

Abstract: A system provides intelligent gallery management for biometrics. A first gallery is obtained that includes biometric and/or other information on a population of people. An application is identified. A subset of the population of people is identified based on the application. A second gallery is derived from the first gallery by pulling the information for the subset of the population of people without pulling the information for the population of people not in the subset. Biometric identification (such as facial recognition) for the application may then be performed using the second gallery rather than the first gallery. In this way, the system is improved as less time is required for biometric identification, fewer device resources are used, and so on.

Abstract: Systems and methods for continuous monitoring of the behavior of animals, such as small rodents, are provided. Monitoring can include video, audio, and other sensor modalities. In one embodiment, the system can include cameras, arena design, environmental sensors, and ultrasonic sensors. The system uniquely provides a continuous long-term monitoring system suitable for mouse behavioral study. Further provided is a neural network based tracker configured for use with video data acquired by the monitoring system. 3 different neural network architectures have been tested to determine their performance on genetically diverse mice under varying environmental conditions. It has been observed that that an encoder-decoder segmentation neural network achieves high accuracy and speed with minimal training data. This general purpose neural network tracker can be easily extended to other experimental paradigms and even to other animals through transfer learning, thus forming a robust, generalizable solution for bio-behavioral research.

Abstract: A machine learning scheme can be trained on a set of labeled training images of a subject in different poses, with different textures, and with different background environments. The label or marker data of the subject may be stored as metadata to a 3D model of the subject or rendered images of the subject. The machine learning scheme may be implemented as a supervised learning scheme that can automatically identify the labeled data to create a classification model. The classification model can classify a depicted subject in many different environments and arrangements (e.g., poses).
