A portable gas fractionalization apparatus that provides oxygen rich air to patients is provided. The apparatus is compact, lightweight, and low-noise. The components are assembled in a housing that is divided into two compartments. One compartment is maintained at a lower temperature than the other compartment. The lower temperature compartment is configured for mounting components that can be damaged by heat. The higher temperature compartment is configured for mounting heat generating components. An air stream is directed to flow from an ambient air inlet to an air outlet constantly so that there is always a fresh source of cooling air. The apparatus utilizes a PSA unit to produce an oxygen enriched product. The PSA unit incorporates a novel single ended column design in which all flow paths and valves can be co-located on a single integrated manifold. The apparatus also can be used in conjunction with a satellite conserver and a mobility cart.

The method includes the use of an intraductal fluid sampling device to contact the patient, provide compression, and deliver heat thereto according to predetermined cycle characteristics. An electrochemical sensor assembly which allows a solution to make contact with an active sensing area of a sensor, while constraining the solution such that the fluid does not contact the sensor electronics and a method for fabricating such a sensor assembly. A sensor assembly is fabricated in accordance with a simple process, including: fabricating a master pattern which matches the external profile of an epoxy shell which will encapsulate a substrate upon which the sensors are mounted; forming a flexible tool (or mold) which conforms to the general profile of the master pattern; placing sensors together with any other desired electronic circuitry on a substrate (such as a printed circuit board or a ceramic pad to form a "hybrid"); pressing a number of electrical contact points on the hybrid and the active sensing area of each sensor on the substrate into contact with flexible protrusions of the flexible tool; and potting the hybrid. Due to the fact that the protrusions from the flexible tool are in contact with the hybrid and structures thereon, a seal is formed to prevent potting material from contacting and covering the predetermined areas of the hybrid covered by the protrusions from the flexible tool.

A retractable safety syringe may have a needle, a syringe body, a shaft seal, and a plunger assembly. A proximal portion of the body and a piston of the plunger may define a vacuum chamber. The plunger assembly may comprise a shaft coupled to a piston. The shaft may have at least one non-engaging portion and at least one engaging portion. The plunger assembly is movable between a storage position and working positions. In the storage position, little or no force is exerted on the shaft seal by the non-engaging portion. In the working positions, the engaging portion is in sealing engagement with the shaft seal to seal the vacuum chamber. Stopper movement of the retractable safety syringe may be reduced or eliminated if the retractable safety syringe is prefilled.
