When the fault condition has been present for a longer time, a second reaction is initiated, which applies a substitute signal instead of the faulty one for control or which consists of a switching off of the actuator operation.

The invention is directed to a system for controlling a clutch which is arranged between the motor of a vehicle generating a motor torque and the wheels of the vehicle. With this clutch, and in response to a drive signal, the force flow between the motor of the vehicle and the wheels can at least be reduced. The essence of the invention is that the drive signal of the clutch is formed in dependence upon a signal which represents a change of the motor torque of a specific extent. The invention is also directed to a system for controlling the motor of a vehicle with an adjusting element for influencing the motor torque which can be adjusted at least in dependence upon the detected command torque. When a specific extent of a change of motor torque is present, the execution of the command to adjust the motor torque is delayed. The essence here is that a clutch is arranged between the vehicle motor and the wheels of the vehicle and the delay is actuated in dependence upon a status signal representing the instantaneous operating state of the clutch.

The invention is directed to a method of controlling a drive unit of a motor vehicle wherein the drive unit is controlled in dependence upon at least one operating variable. The operating variable is detected with at least first and second measuring devices as first and second quantities, respectively, thereby providing a redundant detection of the operating variable. The two measuring devices are mounted so that they move in synchronism with each other within a predetermined tolerance. The second quantity is checked for a fault utilizing a comparison in the context of the tolerance of the synchronism of movement. A fault without a movement out of the tolerance is detected when the value of the second quantity does not change in correspondence to the value of the first quantity within at least a predetermined value range of the operating variable. The invention is also directed to an arrangement of controlling the drive unit in dependence upon the operating variable.

An arrangement for controlling the output torque (M.sub.ab) of an automatic transmission (10) during the sequence of a shift operation in a motor-driven vehicle to a value pregiven by the driver is suggested with the transmission (10) having at least two transmission stages (11, 12) which can be alternately shifted into via clutches (16, 17). During upshifting, the clutch (17) assigned to the higher transmission stage is continuously closed in a time-controlled manner with the motor torque being increased correspondingly for holding the output torque (M.sub.ab) constant. The first clutch (16) is assigned to the lower transmission stage and is opened when this first clutch (16) no longer transmits torque. Thereafter, the second clutch (17) is brought to its synchronous rpm by reducing the motor torque (M.sub.m) and then driven further without slippage. The downshifting operation takes place in a changed sequence in a like manner. A great shift comfort while avoiding any jolts is obtained when shifting with the shift operations being configured as above.

The drive unit includes a drive motor for generating an output torque, a transmission unit and a power transmitting device including a torque converter interconnecting the drive motor and transmission unit for transmitting torque therebetween with the power transmitting device having an output torque, the transmission unit having a transmission ratio and the torque converter having an amplification. The arrangement includes a circuit for supplying a signal indicative of a driver command and a control apparatus. The control apparatus determines a desired value for the output torque of the drive motor occurring at the output end of the power transmitting device and determines a desired value for a drive motor torque from the desired value of the output torque and from variables representing the transmission ratio of the transmission unit and the amplification of the torque converter. A desired value is provided for the drive motor torque to adjust the desired value of the output torque. The apparatus controls the drive motor torque in accordance with the desired value.

In this case an actual change degree of filling of the fuel vapor intermediate store (4) is determined as a consequence of absorption or desorption processes of gaseous hydrocarbons in the fuel vapor intermediate store (4). The actual change in degree of filling is compared with a desired change in degree of filling and, from the comparison, a conclusion about the operability of the fuel vapor intermediate store (4) is drawn.
