An optical element is formed by co-extruding to have an arrangement of polymer scattering fibers within a polymer matrix. The scattering fibers lie substantially parallel to a first axis. The scattering fibers are arranged at positions across the cross-section of the polymer matrix to scatter light transversely incident on the optical element in a direction substantially orthogonal to the first axis. The positions of the scattering fibers across the cross-section of the optical element may be selected so as to form a two-dimensional photonic crystal structure for light transversely incident on the optical element.

A device for fabricating plastic plates includes a divider, a plurality of extruders, a die, a cooling vacuum forming mold and a conveyer. The divider provides a driving mechanism to move the divider back and forth with a reset speed controlled by a cam motor or step motor operated with program. The extruders are connected to the divider. The die is connected to the divider and the cooling vacuum mold is disposed next to the die. The conveyor is disposed next to the cooling vacuum mold. The molten plastic material can be squeezed into divider via the extruders and treated by the die and the cooling vacuum forming mold after being agitated in a heating cylinder to constitute different layers inside. The plastic plates can be pulled out with the conveyor after being made in different curves. Multi-layer plastics can be added in different proportions to enhance effects such as anti abrupt piercing, anti air leak, anti elongation, anti-shock, corrosion resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, insulation resistance, chemical resistance and color change resistance.

A light diffusion sheet with high surface hardness and method of manufacturing the same is used in the backlight of liquid crystal display and is made by multi-player plastic co-extrusion technology, which can produce light diffusion sheet structure of a plurality layers. The structure is to propose at least a high surface hardness layer on the light diffusion sheet as producing backlight module with direct light of liquid crystal display so as to achieve the resistance to scratch. Therefore, it can prevent from the scratch caused by the hardness stuffs such as fingers, dust, module frame, and so on in the assembling, delivery, or packing processes, and further facilitate the mass production, reduce the manufacturing cost, and increase the yield ratio of assembling significantly.

This invention concerns a method and apparatus for manufacturing a sheet and a two-dimensional matrix of plastic optical fibers. The fibers may be of the step-index or graded-index type. Co-extrusion through a specially designed die is used to produce a sheet composed of a fiber array. The fiber sheet (ribbon) can be used for transmitting optical signals. These arrays may also be stacked and fused at high temperatures to form the two-dimensional matrix required for many applications such as large area image transfer. In addition, a high-speed, continuous manufacturing method is disclosed to produce a massive two-dimensional matrix of fibers. The method of manufacture permits high quality image transfer at low manufacturing cost in a wide array of geometries.

Beta nucleation agents are used to impart improved properties in polypropylene materials such as sheets and speciality items, for example, geogrids. A convenient way of incorporating beta-nucleating agents into polypropylene used to fabricate an extruded product is through the use of a concentrate. A concentrate is defined as a highly loaded, pelletized polypropylene resin containing a higher concentration of nucleating agent then is desired in the final extruded sheet (product). The nucleating agent is present in the concentrate in a range of 0.01% to 2.0% (100 to 20,000 ppm), more preferably in a range of 0.02% to 1% (200 to 10,000 ppm). Typical concentrates are blended with non-nucleated polypropylene in the range of 0.5% to 50% of the total polypropylene content of the extruded product. A preferred range is between 1% and 10% of the total polypropylene content of the extruded product. A preferred concentration range of nucleant in the final geogrid product is 0.0001% to 0.1% (1-1000 ppm), most preferably 2-200 ppm. A concentrate can also contain other additives such as stabilizers, pigments, and processing agents. A concentrate containing a beta-nucleating agent cannot contain any additives which nucleate the alpha crystal form of polypropylene. Methods for the manufacture and use, as well as compositions incorporating these concentrates, are described.

A method and apparatus for the extrusion of multilayered composite products, is provided. In accordance with the inventive method, the relative orientation of a first shaped flow stream and a second shaped flow stream to one another is changed, and the reoriented shaped streams are melt-laminated to produce a layered composite formed independent of division of a layered precursor stream. Beneficially, layered flow streams that differ from one another may be used. Differences in volumetric or mass flow rates may also be used to advantage. The inventive apparatus includes a coextrusion structure and a partition member. The coextrusion structure may advantageously include one or more removably disposed, flow-shaping inserts, and the partition member may be a removably disposed, partition plate. The inventive apparatus beneficially further includes a removably disposed flow sequencer for changing the relative orientation of the flow streams.

A slot armor component for use in a rotor of a dynamo-electric machine comprises a plurality of profile co-extruded polymer layers. The composite cross-section of the profile co-extruded layers may include a first leg portion and a second leg portion disposed at an angle to the first leg portion. The plurality of co-extruded polymer layers may include a glass-filled polymer layer arranged between two unfilled polymer layers such as a glass-filled Ultem layer having a glass-fill concentration equal to or less than 30% arranged between two unfilled Ultem layers or a glass-filled polyetheretherketone (PEEK) layer having a glass-fill concentration equal to or less than 30% arranged between two unfilled PEEK layers.

An elastic web of material has a multiplicity of stems extending from at least one side of the web. The web includes a first continuous layer of elastic material having a first side and a second side and a second layer of material. The second layer of material has a first side which faces the first side of the first layer and a second side from which the stems extend. The first and second layers of material are joined together. The second layer of material can be formed of thermoplastic material or melt processable polymeric material. The first and second layers of material are melt formed. They are joined by coextrusion or lamination to form a multiple layer sheet on which a multiplicity of stems are formed on at least the second layer by a process such as embossing the stems into the heated web using a patterned roll or mold.
