Abstract: A network design apparatus for designing a network includes a processor; and a memory storing program instructions that cause the processor to receive input of a configuration condition for a network having a communication layer and at least one computing layer, a cost condition for the network, and a demand condition representing uncertain demand for the network, perform an operation for solving an adjustable robust optimization problem in which an objective function is to minimize a sum of a fixed cost and a variable cost for a resource placed at each base in the communication layer and the computing layer, and determine a configuration of the network based on placement and capacity of a resource obtained by the performing of the operation. The demand condition includes a set of one or more bases from which the resource is assignable in response to the demand.

Abstract: A system and method of managing a network with assets are described. The method includes generating a directed graph with each of the assets represented as a node, determining individual failure probability of each node, computing downstream failure probability of each node according to an arrangement of the nodes in the directed graph, computing upstream failure probability of each node according to the arrangement of the nodes in directed graph, and computing network failure probability for each node based on the corresponding individual failure probability, the downstream failure probability, and the upstream failure probability. Managing the network is based on the network failure probability of the assets.

Abstract: In a distributed cloud environment, a collecting agent deployed external to a kernel of a compute host collects network data packets describing various raw events communicated between compute instances of the environment and metadata associated with the events from various sources. The collecting agent communicates the metadata to a cloud application. The collecting agent also communicates the packets to a stream processor that is decoupled from the collecting agent. The stream processor processes the packets in a stateful manner to generate a set of time series data. The time series data is communicated to the cloud application, where a set of enhanced time series data is generated by merging the time series data with the metadata in a distributed manner. A topology map describing the compute instances of the distributed cloud environment is then generated based on the set of enhanced time series data. The topology map is then displayed.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for restructuring a predefined distributed real-time simulation network, wherein the simulation network has a plurality of network nodes and a plurality of data connections, wherein each network node has at least one data connection interface for connecting a data connection, wherein the network nodes are at least partially in communication via the data connections, and wherein during operation of the simulation network a simulation application is executed on at least one network node. The method comprises receiving configuration data and network activity observations for a set of virtual entities in the cloud-based compute environment; creating a profile for each virtual entity in the set of virtual entities, when the virtual entity does not already have an associated profile; dynamically updating the virtual entity of a profile with the respective network activity observations of the virtual entity; and determining whether anomalies have been detected.

Abstract: A novel design of a gateway that handles traffic in and out of a network by using a datapath pipeline is provided. The datapath pipeline includes multiple stages for performing various data-plane packet-processing operations at the edge of the network. The processing stages include centralized routing stages and distributed routing stages. The processing stages can include service-providing stages such as NAT and firewall. The gateway caches the result previous packet operations and reapplies the result to subsequent packets that meet certain criteria. For packets that do not have applicable or valid result from previous packet processing operations, the gateway datapath daemon executes the pipelined packet processing stages and records a set of data from each stage of the pipeline and synthesizes those data into a cache entry for subsequent packets.
