Abstract:
The present invention relates to the devices and method comprising microelectrode arrays for the differentiation, maturation and functional analysis of electroconductive cells, including muscle cells (including, but not limited to, cardiomyocytes, skeletal muscle myocytes and smooth muscle myocytes) and neuronal cells. The microelectrode present on the arrays can be used to stimulate and record from cells cultured on the substrate. In some embodiments, the substrate has a substantially smooth surface, and in other embodiments the substrate is nanotextured, including an array of substantially parallel grooves and ridges of nanometer-micrometer widths.
Abstract:
Synthesis of platinum(II) di(2-pyrazolyl)benzene chloride and analogs includes forming a 1,3-di-substituted benzene including two aromatic five-membered heterocycles, and reacting the 1,3-di-substituted benzene with an acidic platinum-containing solution to form a luminescent platinum(II) complex. The luminescent platinum(II) complex is capable of emitting blue and white light and can be used as an emitter in a light emitting device.
Abstract:
Receiving a plurality of images of a first wall of the patient's heart, the plurality including a first image captured at a time ij and a second image captured at a time t2, determining based on the plurality of images, a first characteristic of movement of at least a wall portion of the first wall during a time period spanning time t1 and time t2, the first characteristic of movement being determined by using one or more image processing techniques, and the first, characteristic of movement being based on at least one of: (i) a shape of the wall portion in the first image and a shape of the wall portion in the second image, and (ii) a location of the wall portion in the first image and a location of the wall portion in the second image: and outputting an indication of the first characteristic of movement.
Abstract:
Embodiments for a tubular ceramic-carbonate dual-phase membrane and methods for manufacturing the tubular ceramic-carbonate dual-phase membrane are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises methods and devices for modulating the activity or activities of living cells, such as cells found in or derived from humans, animals, plants, insects, microorganisms and other organisms. Methods of the present invention comprise use of the application of ultrasound, such as low intensity, low frequency ultrasound, to living cells to affect the cells and modulate the cells' activities. Devices of the present invention comprise one or more components for generating ultrasound waves, such as ultrasonic emitters, transducers or piezoelectric transducers, composite transducers, CMUTs, and which may be provided as single or multiple transducers or in an array configurations. The ultrasound waves may be of any shape, and may be focused or unfocused.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for obtaining an electrocardiographic (ECG) signal of a user; obtaining a feature vector of the ECG signal of the user with neural network based feature extraction. Comparing the feature vector of the ECG signal with a stored feature vector of a registered user. Authenticating the user in response to determining that a similarity of the ECG feature vector of the ECG signal and the stored ECG feature vector of the registered user exceeds a pre-defined threshold value.
Abstract:
An operating configuration for a power system during a particular time period may be derived from a net load forecast for the power system during the particular time period. The operating configuration may be based on characteristics of power generation units (PGUs) available within the power system (e.g., power generators). The characteristics of a PGU may include a generation trajectory for the PGU that defines, inter alia, power generated by the PGU as the PGU ramps up power production within the power system. The generation trajectory of PGUs may be evaluated in view of the net load forecast to ensure that adequate power resources are available within the power system and avoid ramping scarcity conditions.
Abstract:
A single vector or multiple separate vectors that contain two or more non-competing replicons for transient expression of the heavy and light chains of Rituximab in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves is described. The correct assembly of these subunit proteins into functional oligomeric structures to optimize the expression is also described. This system advances plant transient expression technology by eliminating the need for non-competing viruses, and thus, enhances the realistic commercial application of the multi-replicon single vector system for producing Rituximab in plant cells.
