Abstract: Technologies for virtual machine placement within a data center are described herein. An example method may include determining a shared threat potential for a virtual machine based, at least in part, on a degree of co-location the virtual machine has with a current virtual machine operating on a physical machine, determining a workload threat potential for the virtual machine based, at least in part, on a level of advantage associated with placing the virtual machine on the physical machine, determining a threat potential for the virtual machine based, at least in part, on a combination of the shared threat potential and the workload threat potential, and placing the virtual machine on the physical machine based on the threat potential.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for suppressing discovery of mobile devices in a wireless ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) network, reducing the number of network transmissions by devices in the network and reducing network congestion and prolonging battery life. A mobile device may add supplementary information to introductory beacons transmitted by the device that indicate no response is necessary from other devices participating in the network except for a coordinator of the network. The mobile device may transmit a malformed introductory beacon that will be ignored by other devices in the network except for the coordinator. The coordinator of the wireless network may detect the mobile device moving through the network and transmit a suppression signal to other devices in the network causing the devices to ignore the introductory beacons transmitted by the mobile device.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for detection of incidental robot-human contact. In some examples, a robotic actuator movement may generate a feedback signal, such as a haptic signal, a proprioreceptive signal, an optical signal, and/or an infrared signal. A tremor detector may determine whether the feedback signal contains a tremor signal characteristic of a human, for example by determining whether frequency components in the feedback signal fall within particular frequency ranges. Upon determining that the feedback signal does contain a tremor signal characteristic of a human, the tremor detector may conclude that the robotic actuator has come into contact with a human, and may cause the actuator to halt its movement.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for systems, devices and methods effective to accelerate memory access. A memory unit, including a memory and a programmable circuit, may be in communication with a processor executing a virtual machine. The memory unit may receive from the processor, a request to configure the programmable circuit in accordance with a program. The program may be associated with the virtual machine. The programmable circuit may be configured in accordance with the program. The programmable circuit may then be operated to perform one or more operations on data in the memory.

Abstract: In some examples, data to be transmitted by a transmit node to at least one receive node may be compressed according to one or more sets of compression parameters. One or more estimated peak to average power ratios (PAPRs) to transmit one or more resulting versions of compressed data may be calculated based on precoder data associated with the at least one receive node. A version of the compressed data that has an estimated PAPR that is less than a PAPR threshold value may be sent to the transmit node to transmit to the at least one receive node. Alternately, a version of the compressed data that has an estimated PAPR that is a lowest estimated PAPR relative to at least some other estimated PAPRs corresponding to other versions of the compressed data may be sent to the transmit node to transmit to the at least one receive node.
