The system comprises a coating applicator at the distal end of a sheath which delivers coating material onto the stent as the stent is deployed from the sheath. Thus, the stent may be loaded into the sheath without a coating on the stent, thereby avoiding shearing off or damaging the coating during loading. Also, the coating is applied only as the stent exits the sheath, thereby avoiding shearing off or damaging the coating during deployment.

A power source is in electrical communication with the first and second lumens and a liquid metal is disposed in the first and second lumens to provide an electrical conduit between the power source and electrically driven device. Each lumen may loop from a proximal end of the body to the distal end back to the proximal end.

An apparatus and method for bonding polymeric materials is provided. The apparatus and method both utilize ferromagnetic materials in association with the polymeric materials to be bonded together. The polymeric materials, and the ferromagnetic material, are placed within a magnetic field, which causes hysterisis losses in the magnetic field, and thus elevation in the temperature of both the ferromagnetic material and the polymeric materials to the point where the polymeric materials melt and fuse together. The ferromagnetic materials only rise in temperature to their Curie temperatures, at which point the hysterisis losses cease, and the polymeric material stops being heated. Removing the electromagnetic field allows for cooling and fusing. An interface composition may also be placed between the two polymeric materials to be bonded.

The less porous coating is more conducive to endothelial cell growth, while the more porous coating is better suited for storing and releasing drugs. The surface coatings of different porosities can be produced by coating stent body surface of differing roughness with coatings made by sol-gel method. Differing roughness of the stent body surface can be produced by selective etching of the stent body surface.
