Abstract:
To provide a material to be welded for butt welding which can reduce contamination of particles into a welded portion after the welding is executed and which can construct piping or a device each enabling realization with high repeatability a ultra-clean atmosphere in which the density of impurity such as moisture or the like is suppressed, and a method of cutting the same. Also to provide a wire used for wire cut electric discharge machine which can prevent reduction of chromium composition in a place adjacent to the welded bead section after the welding is executed. (1) A face to be butted of the material to be welded is cut by a wire cut electric discharge machine. It should be noted that it is preferable that the surface of the wire used for the wire cut electric discharge machine is stainless or chromium and that stainless steel or chromium having a thickness of not less than 0.1 .mu.m is deposited on the cut face. (2) As for the method of cutting, at least a face to be butted is cut by the wire cut electric discharge machine. (3) At least the surface of the wire is made of stainless steel or chromium.

Utilizing a low-oxygen welding flux, and a low carbon welding wire, seam welding is conducted by submerged arc welding so that the resulting weld metal has a chemical composition, in which P.sub.WM value defined as below is in a range of from 0.18 to 0.33, and a micro-structure containing acicular ferrite not less than 55% by area ratio: P.sub.WM =P.sub.cm +3.19Ti-1.020 where, P.sub.cm =C+Si/30+(Mn+Cu+Cr)/20+Ni/60+Mo/15+V/10+5B Furthermore, when cracking resistance is required, submerged arc welding is conducted such that the chemical composition of the weld metal satisfies P.sub.rh value of less than 2.8, in addition to fulfilling the above conditions: P.sub.cm =C+Si/30+(Mn+Cu+Cr)/20+Ni/60+Mo/15+V/10+5B.

A scarifying and deburring tool is disclosed adapted to scarify an outer surface of a tubing, pipe or fitting end and scarify and debur an inner surface of a member having an open cylindrical end such tubing, pipe or fitting end. The tool includes an elongated contoured handle with two inner surface scarifying brushes extending from opposite ends of the handle. The handle includes two outer surface scarifying brushes supported in spaced apart throughbores in the handle. A deburring plate is affixed to one side of the handle and includes an inwardly angled deburring scrapers aligned with and extending into respective throughbores. When a tubing, pipe or fitting end is inserted in a throughbore and seated against the corresponding scraper, the end is deburred when the tubing, pipe or fitting is rotated with respect to the tool. The deburring plate includes an opening that functions as a key for opening and closing "B" type acetylene tanks.

A method and apparatus for welding two tubular members together in butting relation is described. The method and apparatus include apparatus capable of delivering a purge gas to a zone adjacent the inner surface of the tubular members and effecting relative movement between the tubular members and a welding torch to weld the butting ends of the tubular members together.

In the construction of cylindrical tanks having end domes wherein the domes are attached by stir friction welding, a wagon wheel is placed inside the tank at the interface of the tank cylinder and the dome such that it provides backup support for the pressure exerted by the stir friction welding tool and strengthens the weld area and the tank by being welded into the tank by the stir friction welding process.

A method of forming vehicle wheel rims includes utilizing linear friction welding. A generally planar piece of metal material is placed into a coil position with two ends in abutment. The abutting ends are oscillated or moved, in a generally linear pattern, relative to each other to increase the temperature of the metal at each end. After the temperature has been increased sufficiently, without reaching the melting temperature of the metal, the linear motion is stopped. The ends are then aligned precisely and forced together with an increased axial load. After cooling, the two ends are permanently joined together with an essentially defect-free welded joint.

The metal tube includes an inner iron base layer, a chrome layer provided on the base layer, and an outer chrome oxide layer provided on the chrome layer. The chrome oxide layer is preferably toughened at the outer surface to provide an appropriate frictional resistance relative to forming tools.
