Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for forming blown thermoplastic articles in which an extrusion head extrudes an essentially tubular parison of thermoplastic material. Sections of a preform mold are then closed around the parison, the sections having a preform cavity with a configuration such that one end of the parison is open after closing and the other end is enclosed. A core pin is next inserted into the open end of the parison and is utilized to compression mold the parison to form a preform. Heat is transferred from the parison through the inner and outer walls of the preform between the mold cavity and core pin during the compression molding step in order to thermally condition the preform and being the temperature within the desired range. The sections of the preform mold are then opened and the preform is enclosed within sections of blow molds within a blow mold cavity. The preform is next expanded to the shape of the blow mold cavity. This process may be continuously repeated by means of multifunction mold halves.

Abstract:
Articles such as containers made of a highly crystalline olefin polymer having improved transparency and impact strength are obtained by biaxially extending an extruded tubular body of said polymer at an orientation temperature below the melting point thereof to attain an extension magnification ratio of at least 1.5 for each of the longitudinal and lateral directions. The polymer is a statistical random copolymer of propylene and from 1.5% to 5.0%, and preferably from 3.0% to 5.0%, by weight ethylene having a melt index of 0.6 - 3.0 g/10 min. Optionally, from 0.03 to 0.20 part by weight of p-tert. butyl benzoic acid, benzoic acid or sodium benzoate are added to 100 parts by weight of said copolymer.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for the preparation of oriented hollow objects of moldable organic plastic material by providing a parison on a first blow core, expanding said parison into an intermediate shape, as by pre-expanding it, transferring said pre-expanded parison to a second blow core, finally extending and expanding said parison to form said hollow object in finished shape.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of making a blown plastic container having a concave pressure bottom configuration by blowing a pre-form into a container having a flat bottom, then contacting and deforming the flat bottom to reform the flat bottom into the desired pressure bottom configuration. The flat bottom is reformed by blowing, or by mechanical contact, or both blowing and contact, at a temperature conducive to multi-axial orientation to provide a pressure bottom of increased strength. To facilitate the performance of the method utilizing an initial parison formed by free extrusion, the present invention further contemplates smoothing out any pinch flash and distributing it on the bottom of the parison, so that the pinch flash will not interfere with subsequent forming of the bottom of the final container as above described.

Abstract:
Provided is a double container where an inner bag can be easily pulled out from an outer shell. According to the present invention, a double container comprising a container body and a mouth part attachment member is provided. The container body includes a mouth part and a body part and a bottom part. The mouth part is a tubular portion having an open end. The body part is arranged adjacent to the mouth part on a side farther from the open end than the mouth part, and has a larger outer diameter than the mouth part. The bottom part is configured to close a lower end of the body part. The container body includes an inner bag and an outer shell arranged to cover the inner bag. And the mouth part attachment member is configured to be attachable to the mouth part, and is configured such that the inner bag rotates as the mouth part attachment member rotates.
Abstract:
The invention provides a mould core and injection moulding apparatus for the production of a preform using a mould core which in the zone for defining the neck part of the preform comprises a combination of a raised portion and a shallow groove with a depth of 0.01 to 1 mm provided in the raised portion, for defining an internal attachment means in the neck of the preform.
