摘要: An exhaust cleaner system for use in the exhaust system of a diesel engine is provided with a particulate filter positioned in a trap housing with an exhaust inlet thereto and an exhaust outlet therefrom. A pair of exhaust ducts are positioned in the inlet end of the exhaust outlet whereby to define, in effect, three separate exhaust flow zones through the filter and a flow limiter valve is operatively positioned to sequentially control flow through the exhaust ducts. Glow plugs are located so as to extend into the zones of the filter associated with the exhaust ducts to initiate incineration of particulates during reduced exhaust flow conditions as controlled by the flow limiter valve.

摘要: The filter of honeycomb construction has a matrix of thin, interconnected walls which define a multiplicity of cells and which have interconnected open porosity of a volume and size sufficient to enable the fluid to flow completely across the thin walls in their narrow dimensions between adjoining cells and through the thin walls in their longer dimensions between adjoining or neighboring cells and to restrict the particulates in the fluid from flowing either completely across or through any of the thin walls, and has the cells divided into an inlet group and an outlet group and providing the inlet group of cells with substantially greater desirably about 25% or more greater, collective thin wall surface area than is provided to the outlet group of cells. Portions of the inlet group cells adjoin one another and share in common the same thin wall. Method of fabricating the filter comprises providing the matrix, and closing oen end of each of the inlet and outlet group cells, the closed ends of the inlet group cells being at an end face of the matrix opposite to the other end face thereof at which occur the closed ends of the outlet group cells, to provide the inlet group of cells with the aforesaid substantially greater collective thin wall surface area.

摘要: In one embodiment, there is disclosed an apparatus for decontaminating exhaust gasses. The apparatus includes a monolith catalytic substrate having a length and a width. The substrates length separates first and second opposed ends. The first end and second ends each have a one piece retention ring fitted thereon. The apparatus includes a housing having a length separating opposed, spaced apart open first and second ends. The housing has a side wall extending substantially unbroken there between to define a body having an interior space. The monolith catalytic substrate is disposed in said interior space. The housing has a greater length than said monolith catalytic substrate. The substrate is centered in the housing and the housing is swaged at the first and second ends respectively to engage the retention rings and retain the monolith catalytic substrate within the interior space in said housing.

The insulator includes ceramic fibers that have a bulk shrinkage no greater than 10 weight percent.
