In some embodiments, the geometric element is a part and selection of the geometric element by the user comprises opening the part for editing. In other embodiments, the geometric element is a feature and selection of the feature comprises accessing a feature tree. In an embodiment, a method for manufacturing a thin layer chromatography (“TLC”) plate is disclosed. The method includes forming a layer of elongated nanostructures (e.g., carbon nanotubes), priming the elongated nanostructures with one or more adhesion priming layers, and at least partially coating the elongated nanostructures with a coating. The coating includes a stationary phase and/or precursor of a stationary phase for use in chromatography. The stationary phase may be functionalized with hydroxyl groups by exposure to a base or acid. The stationary phase may further be treated with a silane (e.g., an amino silane) to improve the performance of the TLC plate. Embodiments for TLC plates and related methods are also disclosed.

A computer-implemented method for concurrent design and analysis of an engineering object may include (1) storing a geometric model of an engineering object, the geometric model including control points and analysis nodes derived from the control points, (2) enabling an analysis user to view the geometric model and perform analysis operations on analysis nodes, (3) enabling a CAD user to view the geometric model and edit a control point, and (4) updating the view of the geometric model provided to the CAD user and the analysis user according to the edit performed on the control point. The apparatus may produce an electrical response to deformation and, thus, function as a strain gauge. The conductive fillers may include conductive nanoparticles and/or conductive stabilizers. In another general aspect, a method of measuring compression strain includes detecting, along a first axis, an electrical response generated in response to an impact to a uniform composite material that includes conductive fillers and voids disposed throughout an elastomeric polymer, and determining a deformation of the impact based on the electrical response. The impact may be along a second axis different from the first axis.

Example of other FEA pre-processing operations include applying a material definition to a geometry, pre-meshing a geometry, initiating automated meshing of a geometry, validating automated meshing of a geometry, editing a mesh for a geometry, manually meshing a geometry, and defining one or more boundary conditions for a geometry. Systems, devices, and methods for delivering a biological material into a cell are provided. In one example, a lance device for introducing biological material into a cell and configured for use in a nanoinjection system including a microscope is provided. Such a device can include a lance having a tip region and a shaft region, wherein the lance is structurally configured to allow entry and movement of the tip region into the cell along an elongate axis of the tip region and along a focal plane of the microscope. In another example, the lance can be configured to allow substantially horizontal entry and movement of the tip region into the cell.

A method is described for extracting aperiodic components from a time-series wave data set for diagnosis purposes. The method may include collecting time-series wave data within a controlled environment were a plurality of contrasting conditions can be used in collecting the time-series wave data set. Aperiodic components can be extracted from the time-series wave data set and the aperiodic components can then be fitted to the plurality of contrasting conditions of the controlled environment to product regressed aperiodic components from which diagnostic determination can be made.
