The ferrite contains 30-41 mol % of MnO, 6-16 mol % of ZnO, and the balance of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 as main components and 50-250 ppm of SiO.sub.2, 200-1500 ppm of CaO, up to 4000 ppm of SnO.sub.2, up to 3000 ppm of TiO.sub.2, at least 300 ppm of SnO.sub.2 +TiO.sub.2, from more than 0 to 500 ppm of Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, and from more than 0 to 400 ppm of ZrO.sub.2 as subordinate components.

A single chip semiconductor integrated circuit device having a central processing unit (CPU) and a flash memory which stores data to be processed by the CPU and which provides data to the CPU through the data bus in response to accessing instructions from the CPU through the address bus. The flash memory is constituted by a plurality of memory arrays in which a plurality of word lines are commonly employed for all of the memory arrays and a plurality of data lines are distributed amongst the memory arrays. The nonvolatile memory cells are arranged in a manner in which plural memory blocks are formed. The memory blocks formed can be facilitated with different memory capacities. This is achieved by having one or more rows of memory cells associated with one or more word lines provided within a memory block. Sources of all of the memory cells within each memory block are connected to a single source line which is fed by a predetermined voltage for effecting simultaneous erasure of the memory cells therein from a corresponding one of plural source voltage control circuits. In accordance with another feature of the flash memory, individual ones of plural bit data are assigned to respective ones of the plural memory arrays.

There are disclosed a method and an apparatus for monitoring astigmatism and the condition of the focus in a transmission electron microscope. The apparatus includes a TV camera for converting the specimen image taken by the electron microscope into a video signal, which is sent to a control unit. An image monitor, a graph monitor and image memory are connected with the control unit, as well as the TV camera. The control unit superimposes radial cursor lines on the image of a specimen displayed on the image monitor, and reads data about the pixels lying on the cursor lines from the image memory. The control unit then creates graphs showing the distributions of data about the pixels existing on the cursor lines from the data read from the memory. An array of the graphs is displayed on the graph monitor.

Autofocus method and apparatus capable of quickly detecting the focal point in an electron microscope in spite of the magnetic aftereffects of the ferromagnetic substance forming the objective lens. The autofocus method is initiated by causing the electron beam emitted from the microscope to hit a specimen at a first angle. Under this condition, the excitation current fed to the objective lens is continuously varied between values. At the same time, a video signal obtained from the resulting projected image is sampled at fixed intervals to obtain a first set of data. Then, the beam is caused to hit the specimen at a second angle. Under this condition, the excitation current fed to the objective lens is continuously varied between values. Simultaneously, a video signal produced from the resulting projected image is sampled at fixed intervals to obtain a second set of data. These two sets of data are compared to find the focal point.

A platinum alloy electrocatalyst composed of a platinum-iron-cobalt alloy comprising 40 to 80 atomic percent of platinum, 10 to 40 atomic percent of iron and 10 to 40 atomic percent of cobalt supported on a suitable carrier has outstandingly high stability and catalytic activity. Electrodes using such an electrocatalyst (particularly when used as cathodes in acid-electrolyte fuel cells) remain stable for longer periods and have more than 30% higher output than electrodes using conventional catalysts.

A platinum alloy electrocatalyst, composed of a platinum-copper alloy containing 15 to 50 atomic percent of copper (the balance being platinum) and supported on a suitable carrier, shows high activity over long periods because of the enhanced specific activity of supported metal and improved maintainability of its specific surface area. Thus acid-electrolyte fuel cells using the electrode comprising such an electrocatalyst feature better output performances and longer service life than fuel cells using conventional electrodes.
