The object of the present invention is to provide an optically functional element having a large change in refractive index with temperature change and a fast change rate in refractive index, a production method for the same and optical switch, temperature sensor and optical information recording medium using the same. The present invention provides a thin film formed directly on a substrate or via other layers, and the film is composed of particles with an average diameter of not larger than 13 nm, observed at film surface. The present invention also provides an optically functional element having an amount of change in refractive index of not less than 2.0×10−4/° C. The present invention further provides a production method for said thin film by sputtering under reduced pressure in an inert gas atmosphere containing 3-15% by volume of oxygen, and optical switch, temperature sensor and optical information recording medium using said element.

This invention provides carbonic acid- and/or hydrogencarbonic acid-iron-hydrolyzates of casein complexes containing a large amount of iron, without causing precipitation after heating their aqueous solution or astringent taste and the processes for production thereof. The complexes of the present invention are prepared by (1) partial hydrolysis of carbonic acid- and/or hydrogencarbonic acid-iron-casein complexes with a protease or (2) mixing carbonic acid and/or hydrogencarbonic acid, iron and partial hydrolyzates of casein with a protease. These complexes are used favorably as food additives, raw materials of medicines or feed components due to their lack of precipitation by heating their aqueous solution, or astringent taste.

A method for widening a foam sheet by the sheet widening apparatus 1 comprises the steps of piercing both the side parts of the foam sheet S with the pins 21 at the sheet receiving start points; widening the space of width between the pins 21 along gently curved loci by drying the chains 2 while the pins 21 penetrating the foam sheet; and receiving the foam sheet S from the sheet receiving start points to the sheet receiving end points while the foam sheet is widened.
