摘要: A method for gracefully degrading packet data voice quality in a wireless network includes monitoring and evaluating data transfer conditions on the network. This may be done on a network-wide level, or for access terminals individually. For the evaluation, data transfer conditions are compared to criteria that indicate a relative quality level. Based on the evaluation, a variable number of the voice data packets addressed to the access terminals are eliminated prior to transmission over the airlink. If conditions are optimal, no data packets are eliminated. If not, one or more packets may be eliminated periodically (e.g., 1 data packet out of every five) until conditions change. The access terminals compensate for any eliminated packets. In this manner, packet data voice quality is gracefully degraded for temporarily reducing voice traffic on the network when conditions are poor, avoiding the need for dropped calls or the like.

摘要: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for communication with at least one wireless unit over a forward and a reverse link in a wireless network. The method includes receiving a feedback indication on at least a first channel over the forward link for reception of a transmission on at least a second channel over the reverse link, and adjusting transmit power of a wireless unit associated with the network based on the feedback indication. For example, a transmitter at a wireless unit associated with a spread spectrum wireless network, such as a code division multiple access cellular network, may control transmit power of in a reverse link. Specifically, the feedback indication for reception of a traffic or control channel over the reverse link may be received on a channel that is available on the forward link for another purpose than providing power control feedback. In this way, the transmitter performs reverse link power control at the wireless unit. By performing such reverse link power control, the transmitter obviates many conventional drawbacks associated with a receiver-centric power control in a feedback-based spread spectrum wireless communications system.

摘要: A fast and secure syntax compliant encryption schema, “locally iterative encryption,” can produce compliant ciphertext for a general syntax specification. In one implementation, an engine partitions a data stream into blocks, and encrypts each block iteratively until syntax compliance conditions are met. A system using the schema can utilize either stream ciphers or block ciphers in different modes. Locally iterative encryption methods are fast and remain at approximately the same speed even as the length of the data stream to be encrypted increases. Besides providing superior processing speed, the locally iterative encryption schema is also more robust to errors in the resulting ciphertext and in the resulting decrypted plaintext than conventional syntax compliant encryption techniques. Locally iterative encryption is secure as long as an underlying encryption cipher selected for use in the schema is secure.

摘要: A method for making an ICD or MEOD structure includes dry etching a structure to produce one or more via holes in an upper layer of the structure. The dry etching step stops on a metal layer that underlies the upper layer in the structure. The method also includes cleaning the dry etched structure with an aqueous solution that includes hydrogen peroxide and either an ammonium salt or an amine salt.
