Abstract: The invention relates generally to optically high transparency and high haze structures and, more particularly, to plastic, e.g., polymer, and glass structures having a sub-wavelength texture formed on a surface thereof, which is effective to impart the optical properties of high transparency and high haze to the structures. The texture is in a grass-like or needle-like form. Additionally, the optically high transparency and high haze structures may include a transparent conductor. Furthermore, the glass structures may exhibit a self-cleaning function.

In some embodiments, the method may include forming a plurality of electrical through glass vias (TGVs) in an electrode substrate; filling each of the plurality of electrical TGVs with an electrode material; forming a plurality of contact TGVs in the electrode substrate; filling each of the plurality of contact TGVs with a conductive material; patterning the conductive material to connect the electrical TGVs with the contact TGVs; forming a cavity in a first glass layer; and bonding a first side of the first glass layer to the electrode substrate.

Abstract: A transparency includes a transparent substrate and a plurality of electrically conductive lines on the transparent substrate, at least one of the electrically conductive lines intersecting at least one other electrically conductive line, and at least one of the electrically conductive lines having a width of no more than 50 μm to reduce distraction resulting from optical diffraction of light transmitted through or reflected by the transparency as compared to a transparency comprising electrically conductive lines having a width greater than 50 μm. A coated substrate includes: a substrate; a dielectric layer on the substrate; and a sensor including a conductive layer on the dielectric layer, where at least one layer selected from the dielectric layer and the conductive layer is formed by at least one method selected from lithography, inkjet printing, and aerosol jet printing.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for making a thin film device and/or for reducing warp in a thin film device, the methods comprising applying at least one metal film to a convex surface of a glass substrate, wherein the glass substrate is substantially dome-shaped. Other methods disclosed include methods of determining the concavity of a glass sheet. The method includes determining the orientation of the concavity and measuring a magnitude of the edge lift of the sheet when the sheet is supported by a flat surface and acted upon by gravity. Thin film devices made according to these methods and display devices comprising such thin film devices are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver or the like in a low-E coating, and methods of making the same. In certain cases, at least one layer of the coating is of or includes nickel and/or titanium (e.g., NixTiyOz). The provision of a layer including nickel titanium and/or an oxide thereof may permit a layer to be used that has good adhesion to the IR reflecting layer, and reduced absorption of visible light (resulting in a coated article with a higher visible transmission). When a layer including nickel titanium oxide is provided directly over and/or under the IR reflecting layer (e.g., as a barrier layer), this may result in improved chemical and mechanical durability. Thus, visible transmission may be improved if desired, without compromising durability; or, durability may simply be increased.

Abstract: A process that anneals a surface of a substrate bearing a coating includes running the substrate under a flash lamp emitting intense pulsed light and irradiating the coating with the pulsed light through a mask located between the flash lamp and the coating. A frequency of the flash lamp and a run speed of the substrate are adjusted so that each point of the coating to be annealed receives at least one light pulse. A distance between a lower face of the mask and the surface of the coating to be annealed is at most equal to 1 mm. A shape and extent of a slit in the mask are such that the mask occults the coating to be annealed in all zones where the light intensity that, in an absence of the mask, would arrive at the coating to be annealed is lower than a threshold light intensity.
