Abstract:
A method of depositing a functional group on a surface portion of an elastic substrate comprises the steps of: (a) stretching an elastic substrate having an initial surface portion to form an enlarged surface portion from the initial surface portion; then (b) conjugating a functional group on the enlarged surface portion; and then (c) releasing the substrate to form a reduced surface portion from the enlarged surface portion, with the reduced surface portion having an area less than the enlarged surface portion, and with the reduced surface portion having the functional group deposited therein at a greater density than the enlarged surface portion.
Abstract:
A concrete-based mortar is prepared for application on the exterior of a concrete building or other structure. The drying time of the concrete-based mortar is reduced by addition of an accelerant compound. After the concrete-based mortar sets on the building or other structure, an exterior skin of the concrete-based mortar is removed. This provides an even and attractive surface while reducing the amount of labor time required to complete the application.
Abstract:
A method for making a sensor is disclosed, comprising mixing a metal oxide with a polymer to create a composition. The composition is applied to at least a portion of the sensing element comprising two electrodes with an electrolyte disposed therebetween, and calcined to form a protective coating. A gas sensor created in accordance with the above-referenced method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A camouflage applicating kit and method are provided. The kit includes a paint tray, a roller frame having a roller cover supporting portion, a plurality of pattern camouflage roller covers configured to be interchangeably rotatably supported by the roller frame, and an instruction media described in one or more techniques for creating a multi-colored camouflage pattern upon an article. The instruction media describes a method which includes applying a first colored paint to a first patterned paint applicator medium carried by a paint roller, rolling the medium along a surface of an article with a plurality of substantially non-overlapping strokes, applying a second colored paint to a second patterned paint applicator medium carried by a paint roller, and rolling the second medium along the surface over the first colored pattern coating of paint with a plurality of substantially non-overlapping strokes.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for providing a patterned surface wherein predetermined regions of the surface are masked with a self-assembled monolayer (nullSMAnull) covalently bound to a brush polymer overlayer. The remainder of the substrate surface will generally be functionalized with a second self-assembled monolayer. Preferably, the method involves a microcontact printing technique, wherein a molecular moiety capable of spontaneously forming an SMA upon transfer to a surface is nullstampednull onto a substrate surface, followed by growth (or covalent attachment) of a polymer on exposed functional groups within the SMA molecules. Coverage of surface regions with both an SMA and a polymer overlayer provides a number of advantages, particularly with regard to surface masking during etching and the like. The method is useful in the manufacture of microelectronic circuitry, biosensors, high-density assay plates, and the like.
Abstract:
A system for controlled dispensing of a material onto an elongated window component. A nozzle dispenses the material into contact with a surface of the elongated window component at a delivery site located along a path of travel of the elongated window component. A conveyer moves the elongated window component along the path of travel relative to the nozzle at a controlled speed. A metering pump delivers controlled amounts of the material to the nozzle. A pressurized bulk supply delivers the material to an inlet to the metering pump. A controller regulates the speed of the metering pump to control the flow rate of the material dispensed by the nozzle.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a coated cutting tool (e.g.nullcemented carbide insert) useful for grooving or parting of steel or stainless steel components such as tubes and bars. The insert is characterised by a WC-Co-based cemented carbide substrate having a highly W-alloyed Co-binder phase and a hard and wear resistant coating including a multilayered structure of sublayers of the composition (TixAl1-x)N with a periodic and repeated variation of the Ti/Al ratio.
Abstract:
An ornamental steel plate and a manufacturing method therefor wherein the ornamental steel plate includes a steel plate, a pattern forming groove being formed on the surface of which according to a pattern to be expressed, a pattern forming material having different texture and color from the steel plate and filled in the pattern forming groove, and a decal unit decalled on the surface of the pattern forming material; and the method for manufacturing the ornamental steel plate includes coating an etching resist ink on the surface of the steel plate except for a pattern to be expressed, drying and heating the etching resist ink, forming the pattern forming groove by etching the pattern by spraying an etching solution on the surface of the steel plate, removing the etching resist ink by spraying an etching resist ink remover on the surface of the steel plate, filling the pattern forming material having different texture and color from the steel plate in the pattern forming groove, removing a protruding portion of the pattern forming material on the steel plate and polishing the surface of the steel plate at the same time, and decalling colors and patterns of a decal paper on the surface of the pattern forming material by fixing and heat-compressing the decal paper thereon.
Abstract:
A Porous ceramic filter and its method of production are disclosed. The ceramic filter has at least one porous layer (or skin) made of a binder formed of a cured ceramic powder and a preceramic or pyrolyzed ceramic precursor optionally containing a source of zirconia. In some embodiments, the binder is formed of the zirconia source only. The presence of the zirconia gives a skin with good mechanical strength and corrosion resistance to both acidic and basic solutions.
Abstract:
A pigment formulation and it method of application to multi-filamentous net or mesh to generate an image that is visible from only one side is provided. The pigment formulation may comprise of either a paint or an ink composition, which is applied manually onto multi-filamentous nets or mesh.
