Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for controlling a display device that includes a first display and a second display. In one aspect, one or more sets of content may be generated or provided by one or more applications. Content may be prioritized within the sets of content or among the sets of content or both. Information pertaining to at least a portion of at least one of the sets of content generated or provided by at least one of the applications may be rendered to one or more of a plurality of regions of the second display according to a result of the prioritizing such that each of the at least one of the applications or content types associated therewith is mapped to a different one of the plurality of regions of the second display.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for packaging of dissimilar devices using electromagnetic radiation from a laser. In one aspect, an apparatus can include a first substrate, a second substrate, and a first device and a second device disposed on the second substrate. A first metal ring on the first substrate contacts a second metal ring on a second substrate, and is heated by a first electromagnetic radiation from a laser to enclose a first cavity containing the first device. A third metal ring on the first substrate contacts a fourth metal ring on the second substrate, and is heated by a second electromagnetic radiation to enclose a second cavity containing the second device. Enclosing the first cavity may be performed under a first atmosphere, and the enclosing the second cavity may be performed under a second, different atmosphere.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides methods, apparatus, and computer programs encoded on computer storage media for displaying a final color on an electronic display capable of displaying a set of native colors. In one aspect, a method includes producing a first color from drive instructions for a plurality of display devices. Some aspects include identifying a plurality of weights including at least a first weight and one or more other weights, wherein the one or more other weights are less than the first weight and proportional to the first weight. The method also includes associating the first weight with a first color from the set of native colors and recursively assigning one or more colors from the set of native colors to the one or more other weights. Some aspects determine an error between one or more native colors and a desired color. The final color is then displayed on the electronic display by displaying each of the assigned colors according to its weight.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for applying field-sequential color (FSC) methods to displays that include single-mirror interferometric modulators (IMODs), which may be multi-state IMODs or analog IMODs. In one aspect, grayscale levels may be provided by varying a mirror/absorber gap height between black and white states. In other implementations, grayscale levels may be obtained by varying the gap height between the black state and second-order color peaks.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus related to acoustic resonators that include composite transduction layers for enabling selective tuning of one or more acoustic or electromechanical properties. In one aspect, a resonator structure includes one or more first electrodes, one or more second electrodes, and a transduction layer arranged between the first and second electrodes. The transduction layer includes a plurality of constituent layers. In some implementations, the constituent layers include one or more first piezoelectric layers and one or more second piezoelectric layers. The transduction layer is configured to, responsive to signals provided to the first and second electrodes, provide at least a first mode of vibration of the transduction layer with a displacement component along the z axis and at least a second mode of vibration of the transduction layer with a displacement component along the plane of the x axis and they axis.
Abstract:
Interferometric modulators and methods of making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, an interferometric modulator includes an interferometric reflector having a first reflective surface, a second reflective surface, and an optical resonant layer defined by the first reflective surface and the second reflective surface. The interferometric reflector can be configured to transmit a certain spectrum of light at a transmission peak wavelength such that the interferometric modulator has a diminished reflectance of light at the transmission peak wavelength.
Abstract:
Methods of manufacturing light panels having at least one re-entrant turning feature. In one embodiment, a method of manufacturing a light panel includes providing a base layer, providing a cover layer, and coupling the cover layer to the base layer to form at least one re-entrant turning feature between the base layer and the cover layer. In another embodiment, a method of manufacturing a light panel includes providing a base layer, forming at least one receiving space in the base layer, providing at least one prismatic block, and coupling at least a portion of the prismatic block into the receiving space such that re-entrant turning features are formed between the prismatic block and the base layer.
Abstract:
An ornamental display device having at least one interferometric modulator, a signal receiver configured to receive an external signal and a processor configured to control the display based on the external signal is disclosed. In one aspect, the external signal is emitted from a controller. In another aspect, the external signal is emitted from a computer.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides methods, apparatus, and computer programs encoded on computer storage media for converting drive instructions for a plurality of display devices to drive instructions for a first display device. In one aspect, a method includes processing the drive instructions for the plurality of display devices to produce a first color in a set of potential colors for the plurality of display devices, selecting a color for the first display device that approximates the produced first color, displaying the selected color with the first display device, determining an error between the selected color and the produced first color, and diffusing the error by displaying at least another color on at least a portion of the plurality of display devices.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for displaying high bit-depth images using spatial vector screening and/or temporal dithering on display devices including display elements that have multiple primary colors. The systems, methods and apparatus described herein are configured to assign one of the primary colors to a display element of the display device that corresponds to the image pixel based on a rank order and a partition index of an associated screen element of a stochastic screen associated with the display device or a portion thereof.
