Abstract:
A linear optocoupler is employed to provide a signal which is a galvanically isolated reproduction of the magnitude of an A.C. line voltage and another galvanically isolated signal indicative of a change in the polarity of the line voltage for enabling safe monitoring of a change the A.C. voltage. Actuation of an automatic transfer switch to substitute an emergency source of power for a normal source that has failed may be achieved with the emergency power waveform used to replicate the normal power waveform.
Abstract:
A product-carrying tray 1 has longitudinally slotted end members 3 for sliding engagement on guide rails in a conveyor installation or storage unit. Transverse edges 2 of the tray are provided with coupling members 5 for interengagement with other like units also accommodated on the guide rails. In the illustrated embodiment, the coupling members 5 are defined by interengaging hook structures consisting of projecting portions 7 and laterally extending end portions 6. The tray of the invention is especially suited to accommodating food products within a storage or treatment chamber. The tray may however also serve as a product-carrying element in a conveyor installation. Apart from the hook-type interconnection illustrated, a multiplicity of other interconnecting arrangements may be provided, including, inter alia, alternative mechanical structures and magnetic coupling.
Abstract:
The displacement of a valve stem (16) is measured during diagnostic testing by temporarily mounting a laser head (112) on the valve body (18) or yoke (20), for generating a source laser beam (118) that reflects from a target (120) that moves with the stem. The timing of the reflected beam (132) returning to the head (112) relative to the projection of the source beam, gives an indication of the displacement of the stem.
Abstract:
Apparatus which is adapted to purify water by the introduction of metal ions into the water. A chamber (16) is provided which houses two electrodes (E1 & E.sub.2) which are made of metals whose ions are known to have water-purification properties. Water to be purified is passed through the chamber, whereupon a controlled concentration of purifying ions are passed into the water. The metal ions preferably include silver and/or copper to control respectively bacteria and algae. Furthermore, in order to minimize adverse electrolytic effects it has been found advantageous to reverse the polarity of the potential difference across the electrodes at regular intervals.
Abstract:
A device is provided for removing and containing debris present in a fluid as the fluid moves through the device. The device includes a cover member attachable to an inlet pipe for receiving the fluid-carrying debris and an outlet pipe for removing the debris-less fluid. A receptacle is removably secured to the cover member while a replaceable trap bag is housed therein to contain the debris that is deposited by the fluid. The trap bag has a longitudinal seal portion which includes a flat seal portion to overlie a portion of the rim of the receptacle. A gasket member underlies the cover member to engage that portion of the trap bag which overlies the receptacle rim, including the flat seal portion. The flat seal portion substantially eliminates leakage of fluid along the longitudinal seal portion of the trap bag since there is virtually no difference in width between the flat seal portion and other portions of the trap bag overlying the rim. Consequently, there is a tight, uniform seal between the gasket member and the trap bag.
Abstract:
Using LIDAR technology, terabytes of data are generated which form massive point clouds. Such rich data is a blessing for signal processing and analysis but also is a blight, making computation, transmission, and storage prohibitive. The disclosed subject matter includes a technique to convert a point cloud into a form that is susceptible to wavelet transformation permitting compression that is nearly lossless.
Abstract:
A system and method for offset protection data in a RAID array. A computer system comprises client computers and data storage arrays coupled to one another via a network. A data storage array utilizes solid-state drives and Flash memory cells for data storage. A storage controller within a data storage array is configured to store user data in a first page of a first storage device of the plurality of storage devices; generate intra-device protection data corresponding to the user data, and store the intra-device protection data at a first offset within the first page. The controller is further configured to generate inter-device protection data corresponding to the first page, and store the inter-device protection data at a second offset within a second page in a second storage device of the plurality of storage devices, wherein the first offset is different from the second offset.
Abstract:
A less than lethal cartridge for a projectile which when fired has a velocity which will not kill an individual struck by the projectile. The less than lethal cartridge has a rim which is deeper or thicker than a rim on a conventional lethal cartridge. The caliber of the cartridge is also selected so that regular lethal ammunition is not available in this caliber. The preferred caliber of the less than lethal cartridge is .490. The less than lethal cartridge contains a polymeric projectile or alternatively, a sealed filled polymeric pouch containing shot therein.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a compound of formula (I): which is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of pharmaceutically active compounds.
Abstract:
A system and method for effectively scheduling read and write operations among a plurality of solid-state storage devices. A computer system comprises client computers and data storage arrays coupled to one another via a network. A data storage array utilizes solid-state drives and Flash memory cells for data storage. A storage controller within a data storage array comprises an I/O scheduler. The characteristics of corresponding storage devices are used to schedule I/O requests to the storage devices in order to maintain relatively consistent response times at predicted times. Should a device exhibit an unscheduled behavior which may be indicative of the device being in an unknown state, the scheduler may schedule one or more reactive operations on the device configured to cause the device to enter a known state.
