    摘要: A semiconductor laser device and an image display device that efficiently release a heat from stripe active regions, and operated at a low-consumption current and a low-consumption electric power. A semiconductor laser element includes stripe active regions for emitting laser beams. On a base block, there are formed wirings electrically connected to stripe laser electrodes of the semiconductor laser element, respectively. The stripe laser electrodes corresponding to the stripe active regions are formed in proximity to a first surface of the semiconductor laser element, close to the active regions. An electric current is supplied to the active regions from connecting portions between each of the laser electrodes and the wirings.

    摘要: In a display unit which makes coherent light perform scanning on a screen to display an image, it is necessary to rotate a polygon mirror at ultrahigh speed for display of a high resolution image such as HDTV, and therefore, a high-performance polygon mirror must be employed, and further, noise and power consumption during rotation of the polygon mirror cause problems.Mirrors for multiple reflection (6a) and (6b) are inserted in a coherent light scanning optical system, whereby plural scanning lines can be obtained while one plane of the polygon mirror (5) scans one line of coherent light, leading to reduction in the rpm of the polygon mirror.

    摘要: In a semiconductor laser device (10) having different facet reflectivities, an electrode disposed on a stripe ridge (107a) is divided into four electrode parts (1), (2), (3), and (4), and a larger injection current is injected to an electrode part that is closer to a light emission facet side. Further, a carrier density distribution in an active layer that is opposed to the stripe ridge can be matched to a light intensity distribution in the active layer, thereby preventing degradation in high output characteristic due to destabilization of a transverse mode and reduction in gain which are caused by spatial hole burning.

By controlling the timing of a scan by a beam scan portion in response to the characteristic of a laser light source and by setting a light emitting time of the laser light source to an integral multiple of a scan cycle of the beam scan portion, it is possible to illuminate a spatial light modulator homogeneously with a laser beam. It is thus possible to display an image at high accuracy without causing a bright line, irregularities in brightness, and contrast deterioration.
