Abstract:
Hydraulic lost motion systems and methods for actuating an internal combustion engine valve include a master piston slidably disposed in a housing. One or more master piston fluid passages extend from a bore provided in the master piston and register with a fluid passage extending through the housing. A slave piston is slidably disposed in a lower portion of the master piston bore and a valve catch piston is slidably disposed in an upper portion of the master piston bore. The valve catch piston may have a hollow interior, a lower end orifice extending from the hollow interior through a lower end of the valve catch piston, one or more side passages extending through a side portion of the valve catch piston, and one or more seating passages extending through the valve catch piston wall.

An engine braking system for vehicles may include a rocker shaft having a lubricating oil passage and a braking oil passage, a valve unit selectively supplying part of the oil supplied to the lubricating oil passage, into the braking oil passage, and at least one exhaust rocker arm, into which the rocker shaft is inserted and pivotal about the rocker shaft, wherein the at least one exhaust rocker arm has, therein, a first connection passage communicating with the braking oil passage and a first recess, a stopper fixed above the first recess, and an actuator housed in the first recess and including a pressing piston, wherein the pressing piston moves to contact the stopper by hydraulic pressure of the oil supplied from the braking oil passage into the first recess and thus presses the at least one exhaust rocker arm in a downward direction.
Abstract:
A torque pulsated variable cam timing camshaft arrangement for a reciprocating piston, internal combustion engine is provided. The arrangement includes a sprocket. A torque pulsated phaser unit is operatively associated with the sprocket. A camshaft is operatively associated with the sprocket and the camshaft torsionally powers the phaser unit. The camshaft has a cam lobe engaged with a first cam follower for controlling a position of a spring biased valve. A spring biased second cam follower is engaged with the cam lobe providing a torsional input to the camshaft.
Abstract:
A method is provided for controlling an engine via an outlet control device of an intake manifold, such as via variable valve lift operation. The engine may further include an inlet control device, such as an electronic throttle, as well as coordination between the inlet and outlet control devices for controlling airflow in the engine.
Abstract:
Self-adaptive hydraulic variable valve timing system for an internal combustion diesel engine, comprising an electronic control unit, an oil pump, a pressure regulating reversing valve, an oil return tube, an oil line, an oil supply main tube, an oil supply branch tube, and a self-adaptive pushrod length changing assembly. When the engine's oil exceeds 70° C., and engine's rotational speed is greater than or equal to 1300 r/m, and engine's load is greater than or equal to 50%, the control unit is configured to send instructions to the pressure regulating reversing valve to switch oil flow direction towards the oil line which leads to the self-adaptive pushrod length changing assembly and thereby put the engine in an operating mode.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a structure of driving member for variable valve of engine, in which a first intake cam, an exhaust cam, and a second intake cam are mounted, in such an order, to a camshaft. An intake valve driving member has first and second driving members respectively in rolling engagement with the first and second intake cams. The first driving member forms a through hole. The second driving member forms a through hole. The interconnection member forms a through hole. The through holes are connected to and communicate with each other to form a hydraulic cylinder, which receives therein at least one piston that is movable to selectively locate between the first driving member and the interconnection member or between the second driving member and the interconnection member to change the lift of an intake valve.
Abstract:
A method is provided for controlling an engine having an intake manifold and an outlet control device coupled to the manifold for controlling flow exiting the manifold and entering at least one cylinder of the engine. The engine further includes an inlet control device for controlling flow entering the manifold. The method includes providing an engine command; calculating a desired cylinder charge based on said command; and adjusting the outlet control device to provide said desired cylinder charge. The engine command may be, for example, a driver command, such as a driver torque command. Further, the outlet control device may be implement in with a variety of mechanisms. For example, in one embodiment the outlet control device is a valve of the engine having a variable lift. In one embodiment the outlet device is a valve having variable timing. Likewise, the inlet device may be adjusted in response to a variety of parameters. For example, in one embodiment the inlet device is adjusted based on manifold pressure. Still further, engine control may also include adjusting of the inlet control device.
