The engine system further includes a combustion engine comprising combustion chambers and an associated rotatable crank shaft and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) configured to variably transfer rotational energy between the drive shaft and the crank shaft.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine drivably connected to a variable displacement and variable internal compression ratio supercharger that supplies varying amounts of air to the engine air intake manifold that can range selectively from below through above atmospheric pressures responsive to the power requirements of the engine. The supercharger has a pair of rotors concurrently driven by the engine to move air to the engine. A slide assembly associated with screw rotors is movable with a controller relative to the rotors to bypass air to atmosphere and regulate the amount of air and pressure of the air above atmospheric pressure compressed by the screw rotors to the engine to increase the engine's efficiency. When operating at part-load unboosted, a throttle valve is operable to control the air mass flowing to the air intake manifold below atmospheric pressure to control the power of the engine.

    摘要: A supercharged internal combustion engine system wherein during periods of high power demand the weight of combustion chamber charge is increased by cooling a portion of intake air in a turboexpander using high-pressure air from a storage tank. In addition to increasing engine output power, cold air intake also reduces engine pre-ignition (knocking) thereby reducing emissions. Mechanical energy produced during expansion of high-pressure air may be used to operate a turbocompressor, which compresses intake air and further increases charge weight. Effective supercharging is achieved even at low engine speeds. One of the objects of the invention is to obtain more power from small displacement ICE and thus providing automotive vehicles with sufficient acceleration in addition to good fuel economy. Another object of the invention is to enhance turbocharged engines and reduce their response lag. Air storage tank may be recharged using energy recovered during vehicle deceleration.

    摘要: The invention provides a supercharged engine including a supercharger and an intercooler disposed downstream of the supercharger. The engine has a geometric compression ratio equal to or higher than 8.5. The supercharger is an internal compression type mechanical supercharger having a pressure ratio higher than 1.8 wherein the pressure ratio is defined as a ratio of a pressure at an inlet opening to a pressure at an exit opening of the supercharger. Intake valve closing timing of the engine supercharger is in the range of 50 to 100 degrees in crank angle as measured from bottom dead center, and an overlapping period during which both intake and exhaust valves open is equal to or below 17 degrees in crank angle wherein the intake valve closing timing is defined as the timing when valve lift is equal to or less than 1 millimeter, and the overlapping period is to be measured on the basis of a valve lift of zero.
