Abstract:
Apparatus, including a tube having a proximal end, and a distal end for insertion into a body cavity including anatomical structures, and a blade mounted at the distal end. The apparatus also includes a handle at the proximal end and including a device which generates sensible outputs upon receiving activation signals, and a position sensor fixed in a predefined disposition relative to the tube. The apparatus additionally includes a processor configured to acquire an image of the cavity, to determine, in the image, locations for each of the structures, to receive, from the sensor, a position signal indicative of a blade location of the blade within the cavity, to determine, based on the blade location and the respective structure locations, a proximity of the blade to a given structure, and to convey, to the warning device, a given activation signal in response to the proximity to the given structure.
Abstract:
A method, including incorporating a conducting wire into a tubular braid consisting of a multiplicity of supporting wires, and covering the tubular braid with a sheath. The method further includes identifying a location of the conducting wire within the tubular braid and attaching an electrode through the sheath to the conducting wire at the location.
Abstract:
An inventive system and method for touch free operation of a device is presented. The system can comprise a depth sensor for detecting a movement, motion software to receive the detected movement from the depth sensor, deduce a gesture based on the detected movement, and filter the gesture to accept an applicable gesture, and client software to receive the applicable gesture at a client computer for performing a task in accordance with client logic based on the applicable gesture. The client can be a mapping device and the task can be one of various mapping operations. The system can also comprise hardware for making the detected movement an applicable gesture. The system can also comprise voice recognition providing voice input for enabling the client to perform the task based on the voice input in conjunction with the applicable gesture. The applicable gesture can be a movement authorized using facial recognition.
Abstract:
A medical probe, including a flexible insertion tube having a distal end for insertion into a body cavity and including one or more sensors mounted in the distal end, and a handle coupled to a proximal end of the insertion tube. The medical probe also includes a cable having a proximal end and a distal end, which is coupled to the handle so as to receive signals conveyed through the insertion tube from the one or more sensors, and a base unit coupled to the proximal end of the cable. The base unit contains a power source, and a probe wireless transceiver coupled to receive the signals from the cable and to communicate over a wireless connection with a control console.
Abstract:
Cardiac catheterization is carried out by memorizing a designation of a contact state between an electrode of the probe and the heart wall as one of an in-contact state and an out-of-contact state, and making a series of determinations of an impedance phase angle of an electrical current passing through the electrode and another electrode, identifying maximum and minimum phase angles in the series, and defining a binary classifier adaptively as midway between the extremes. A test value is compared to the classifier as adjusted by a hysteresis factor, and a change in the contact state is reported when the test value exceeds or falls below the adjusted classifier.
Abstract:
A method for operating a medical probe includes pressing a distal end of the medical probe, which includes one or more arms that extend diagonally outward from a central shaft and have respective position transducers coupled thereto, against an intra-body surface, so as to cause the arms to exert pressure on the surface and bend with respect to the central shaft in response to the pressure. Positions of the respective position transducers coupled to the arms are measured, and the pressure exerted by the arms is estimated responsively to the measured positions.
Abstract:
Testing a thermocouple-based RF ablation system is carried out by connecting a temperature simulator to an ablator module. The ablator module is operative to vary a radiofrequency power output thereof in a predefined manner in response to predefined variations in a temperature signal from the simulator. The method is further carried out by delivering RF power from the ablator module to the temperature simulator, and while delivering RF power, performing the steps of: communicating temperature signals from the temperature simulator to the ablator module, varying the communicated temperature signals, and verifying that a variation in the power output of the ablator module in response to varying the temperature signals conforms to the predefined manner.
Abstract:
A method, consisting of passing a cylindrical carbon fiber through a press so as to produce a flat ribbon. The method further includes weaving multiple strands of the flat ribbon together to create a cylindrical braid.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes detection circuitry and gating circuitry. The detection circuitry is configured to sense a radio frequency (RF) ablation signal that is applied to a heart by an intra-body probe, and to identify time intervals during which an amplitude of an ablation signal is within a predefined window. The gating circuitry is configured to gate an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal acquired in the heart, such that the ECG signal is sampled only within the identified time intervals.
Abstract:
A medical probe includes a flexible insertion tube, having a distal end for insertion into a body cavity of a patient, and a distal tip, which is disposed at the distal end of the insertion tube and is configured to be brought into contact with tissue in the body cavity. A coupling member couples the distal tip to the distal end of the insertion tube and includes a tubular piece of an elastic material having a helical cut therethrough along a portion of a length of the piece.
