The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire having its internal cavity filled with a closed cellular rubber contained within the tire cavity by a non-foamed rubber layer.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a built-in sealant layer and its preparation. The sealant layer precursor is a layer of a butyl rubber based composition which contains an organoperoxide. The butyl rubber of said precursor is a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene containing from about 0.5 to about 5, alternately less than 1, mole percent isoprene. The precursor composition contains carbon black and/or coal dust and may contain a dispersion of liquid conjugated diene polymer (e.g. liquid cis 1,4-polyisoprene polymer), short fibers and/or hollow glass microspheres. A layer of the sealant precursor is built into the tire between a sulfur vulcanized halobutyl rubber innerliner and conjugated diene-based rubber of the tire carcass. The butyl rubber of the sealant precursor is partially depolymerized by the organoperoxide during the elevated temperature vulcanization of the tire to form the built-in sealant layer. In one aspect of the invention, said uncured butyl rubber sealant precursor layer composition has a storage modulus G′ (80° C.) in a range of about 100 to about 400 kPa and said partially depolymerized butyl rubber sealant layer composition has a storage modulus G′ (80° C.) in range of about 5 to about 50 kPa.
Abstract:
The invention relates to articles of manufacture, such as for example, tires and industrial products, which have at least one component comprised of a rubber composition which contains particles of pre-sulfur vulcanized rubber (e.g. ground recycled rubber) and high purity trithiodipropionic acid, wherein said trithiodipropionic acid is preferably provided as particles of a carbon black composite comprised of carbon black and said high purity trithiodipropionic acid. Said high purity trithiodipropionic acid is comprised of polythiodipropionic acids containing at least 80 weight percent trithiodipropionic acid based upon said polythiodipropionic acids.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a camouflage tire suitable for use in various vehicle use environments wherein it is desirable to reduce or eliminate a viewer's visual perception of the tire against the given environmental background.
Abstract:
Pneumatic rubber tire with a component comprised of a silica reinforced rubber composition comprised of specialized polybutadiene rubber, functionalized styrene/butadiene elastomer and cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread of a lug and groove configuration and of a co-extruded cap/base construction; wherein the tread cap is of a rubber composition which contains carbon black and is thereby of a black color; wherein a visible surface of at least one groove is of a rubber composition exclusive of carbon black and is of a non-black color and wherein said visible non-black colored rubber composition is a rubber layer which underlies said tread cap. Said visible non-black colored rubber is exclusive of any appreciable portion of, and preferably exclusive of, the surface of said tread lugs intended to be ground-contacting. In one aspect of the invention, said non-black colored rubber composition contains an amorphous precipitated silica reinforcement, preferably a pre-hydrophobated precipitated silica. In another aspect of the invention, said non-black colored rubber composition, and alternately, carbon black containing black colored rubber compositions adjoining said non-black colored rubber composition, is comprised a blend of at least one diene based elastomer and a brominated copolymer of isobutylene and p-methylstyrene together with an organo phosphite.
Abstract:
The invention relates to ground sulfur pre-vulcanized rubber (e.g. recycled cured rubber) which is blended with a pre-formed composite of carbon black and tris (2-aminoethyl) amine following which it is sulfur vulcanized. The invention also relates to articles of manufacture, including tires, which have at least one component as a rubber composition comprised of such treated pre-vulcanized particulate rubber.
