Abstract:
A tread made of rubber material for a snow tire having a tread surface intended to be in contact with a road surface when the tire is being driven on, and provided with a plurality of cuts delimited by walls situated facing one another and forming lateral walls of raised elements of the tread. Each lateral wall intersects the tread surface to form an edge corner. At least one lateral wall of a raised element is formed partially or fully by a cover layer extending from the edge corner associated with this lateral wall, of a material having an elastic modulus higher than that of the rubber material of the tread. The raised element has a depression in its lateral wall, delimited by the cover layer. The raised element moreover has a width W and the depth P of the depression is at least equal to 10% of the width W of the element and less than or equal to 40% of this width W. Finally the volume of the depression is less than 10% of the volume of the raised element.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for surface-modifying a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer, which can cost-effectively provide a variety of functions, such as sliding properties, according to the application. The present invention relates to a method for surface-modifying a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer as a target for modification, the method including: step 1 of forming polymerization initiation points on a surface of the modification target; and step 2 of radically polymerizing a non-functional monomer, starting from the polymerization initiation points, to grow non-functional polymer chains, and then radically polymerizing a fluoropolyether segment-containing functional monomer to grow functional polymer chains.
Abstract:
A method of laminating a vulcanized tire includes providing a vulcanized tire having a circumferential tread and a pair of sidewalls constructed of a base rubber. The method further includes cleaning the circumferential tread, providing a laminate, and forming a plurality of holes in the laminate. The method also includes applying the laminate to at least a portion of one of the circumferential tread and a sidewall of the vulcanized tire. The method further includes applying pressure to the laminate, thereby evacuating air between the laminate and the circumferential tread of the vulcanized tire and curing the laminate.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread of a lug and groove configuration wherein at least a portion of surface of the grooves is comprised of an elastomeric layer having a repellent property.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread or rubber layered rubber tread where the rubber tread or rubber tread layers contain a dispersion of polyester phthalate within and on the surface thereof to promote a hydrophilic property for the surface. In one embodiment such promoted hydrophilic property is to promote expelling of water borne mud or snow from within the tread grooves.
Abstract:
The present invention aims to provide a method for modifying a surface of a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer, which can impart excellent sliding properties and excellent durability against repeated sliding motion, and allow the surface to maintain the sealing properties, without using expensive self-lubricating resins. The present invention relates to a method for modifying a surface of an object of a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer, the method including: Step 1 of forming polymerization initiation points on the surface of the object; and Step 2 of radical-polymerizing a monomer starting from the polymerization initiation points to grow polymer chains on the surface of the object.
Abstract:
A bond of a rubbery component to a virgin surface of a tire's cured innerliner which virgin surface has never been contaminated by the remnants of a release agent left after buffing with a wire brush and solvent-cleaning the cured innerliner, is unexpectedly stronger than a bond of the component to the contaminated but “cleaned surface”, cleaned as indicated. As an alternative, buffing with a wire brush results in a textured surface that impairs adhesion of a balance pad. Therefore, a pneumatic tire is provided with a virgin surface protected against contamination by a release agent at the curing temperature of the tire; protection is provided by a self-supporting barrier film of sulfur non-vulcanizable, expandable, thermoformable synthetic resinous material; and, a method is provided for maintaining a virgin cured surface within all or part of either the exterior or interior of a pneumatic tire's rubber carcass which is conventionally cured. The barrier film which is substantially inextensible at ambient temperature, is removable without tearing into pieces from the protected surface of the cured tire. When the interior surface is provided by an innerliner, any component to be included within the interior of the carcass may be adhesively secured to the virgin surface of the innerliner more securely than has been heretofore possible.
Abstract:
A tire tread comprising a plurality of elements in relief (1) comprising a contact face (2) intended to come into contact with the roadway during travel and lateral faces (13, 14, 15, 16), the intersection of each lateral face with the contact face forming a ridge (23, 24, 25, 26). The tire tread also comprises a plurality of cutouts (3, 4) in the form of grooves and/or incisions, said cutouts being defined by facing main faces. Each tread pattern element (1) is formed with at least one rubber mix (referred to as “base mix”). This tread, viewed in section in a plane containing the thickness of this tread, has at least one face defining at least one cutout covered at least in part with a second rubber mix, referred to as “covering mix”, this part having covering mix extending when new over a height Hr at least equal to 30% of the height H of the face, and wherein at least one first base mix opens on to the contact face when new or at the latest after wear at most equal to 10% of the height Hr. The covering mix comprises a butyl rubber and the covering mix comprises a plasticiser of the type unsaturated C12-C22 fatty acid ester.
