Abstract:
A sample collection device for use with a chemical analyzer, the device comprising a sample collecting assembly having at least one sampling medium and a sample desorbing assembly arranged to receive the sampling medium therein, the sample collecting assembly and sample desorbing assembly being movable with respect to one another between a sample collecting configuration in which the sampling medium is substantially exposed and a sample desorbing configuration in which the sampling medium is substantially housed within the sample desorbing assembly.
Abstract:
The invention provides method and apparatus for making light-weight honeycomb mirrors by assembling fused quartz ribs in a honeycomb pattern so that rib ends are proximate other rib ends to form rib junctions. A laser beam is then directed at the rib junctions to weld the rib ends together to form a honeycomb structure having a plurality of rib-defined cells or modules therein. Fused quartz plates of matching size are then positioned across the so-formed rib cells and welded by directing a high powered laser beam at the edges of the plates and adjacent ribs to weld the plates to the rib cells of the honeycomb structure and define a honeycomb mirror blank. The surface of the plates of, e.g. fused quartz, are then ground and polished to a mirror finish and a reflective coating added, to complete the light-weight honeycomb mirror by the method and apparatus of the invention.
Abstract:
The invention provides Aryl substituted imidazoles, pyrazoles, pyridizines and related compounds of the Formula where the ring system represented by is a 5 membered heteroaryl ring system, in which x is 0, A is chosen from carbon and heteroatoms nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur, and E and G are independently carbon or nitrogen provided that the 5 membered heteroaryl ring system does not contain more than 3 heteroatoms or more than 1 oxygen or sulfur atom, or a 6 membered heteroaryl ring system, in which x is 1, A, B, E, and G are independently chosen from carbon and nitrogen, provided that the 6 membered heteroaryl ring system does not contain more than 3 nitrogen atoms. The remaining variables, Ar1, Ar2, R, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, y and z are defined herein Such compounds are ligands of C5a receptors. Preferred compounds of the invention act bind to C5a receptors with high affinity and exhibit neutral antagonist or inverse agonist activity at C5a receptors. This invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds. It further relates to the use of such compounds in treating a variety of inflammatory and immune system disorders.
Abstract:
Compounds of Formula I are provided, in which variables are as described herein: Such compounds may be used to modulate MCH binding to MCH receptors in vivo or in vitro, and are particularly useful in the treatment of a variety of metabolic, feeding and sexual disorders in humans, domesticated companion animals and livestock animals. Pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating such disorders are provided, as are methods for using such ligands for detecting MCH receptors (e.g., receptor localization studies).
Abstract:
Hydraulic control apparatus for automatic remote control of a hydraulic actuating ram. The apparatus has a double-acting slave cylinder connectable hydraulically to an actuating ram, and a double-acting master cylinder the piston of which is mechanically connected to the piston of the slave cylinder, the master cylinder being operable by hydraulic pressure supplied via a pilot-operated valve arranged automatically to reverse the stroke of the master ram at limits set according to the desired stroke of the actuating ram. The control apparatus may be used for controlling actuating rams which effect reciprocating pivotal movement about one or more axes of a water jet monitor.
Abstract:
This invention relates to benzimidazoles, pyridylimidazoles and related bicyclic heteroaryl compounds, all of which may be described by of Formula I The invention is particularly related to such compounds that bind with high selectivity and high affinity to the benzodiazepine site of GABAA receptors. This invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds and to the use of such compounds in treatment of certain central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Novel processes for preparing compounds of Formula I are disclosed. This invention also relates to the use of benzimidazoles, pyridylimidazoles and related bicyclic heteroaryl compounds of Formula I in combination with one or more other CNS agents to potentiate the effects of the other CNS agents. Additionally this invention relates to the use such compounds as probes for the localization of GABAA receptors in tissue sections.
Abstract:
A desorber for use with a chemical ionisation mass spectrometer comprises a body portion that has a cavity formed therein, the cavity being arranged to receive a sample collector, the sample collector being preferably carried by a holding device that can be slid in and out of the cavity. The body portion includes an air intake passage in communication with the cavity and at least one heating element arranged to heat air drawn through the air intake passage into the cavity.
