摘要:
The invention relates to soluble metal oxides and mixed metal oxides and to solutions comprising metal oxides and mixed metal oxides. The invention further relates to a process for preparing a soluble metal oxide and a soluble mixed metal oxide and additionally relates to a process for modifying the solubility of a soluble metal oxide. The metal oxides, mixed metal oxides and solutions thereof have a number of applications and in particular are suitable for use as catalysts and also as precursors for the formation of metal oxide coatings. The present invention is also suitable for coating medical devices, and can be used for coating drug cocktails to produce sustained release tablets. Similarly, the coatings may be used for the sustained release of pesticides, insecticides, dyes and fragrances. Further uses include the application of the present invention to coat the moving parts of engines and machinery. Furthermore the present invention has application as use as spacer layers in Metal Enhanced Fluorophores (sensing platforms).

The present invention relates to nucleic acid sequences encoding ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) and to the proteins, peptides, and derivatives produced therefrom. In various embodiments of the invention, the nucleic acid sequences, proteins, and peptides of the invention may be used in the treatment of a variety of neurological diseases and disorders, including Alzheimer's disease. In a specific embodiment of the invention, CNTF may be used to support the growth of spinal cord neurons, thereby providing a method of treating spinal cord damage caused by trauma infarction, infection, nutritional deficiency or toxic agents. The present invention also relates to a novel method for producing substantilly pure CNTF. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising effective amounts of CNTF gene products which may be used in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of neurologial diseases and disorders. The present invention relates to the cloning sequencing and expression of CNTF and provides, for the first time, a means for producing human CNTF utilizing human CNTF-encoding nucleic acid sequences. Furthermore, the CNTF nucleic acid sequences of the invention may be utilized to identify nucleic acid sequences encoding CNTF or CNTF-homologous molecules in a variety of species and tissues.

A lubricant composition is described, particularly for engine oils, comprising a base oil of viscosity from 3 to 26 cSt (mm2/s) at 100° C. and an antiwear additive combination comprising (a) an oil soluble or oil dispersible phosphorus-free organo-molybdenum compound, (b) an ashless, sulfur-containing organo-phosphorus compound, and optionally (c) a zinc thiophosphate compound selected from one or more of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, zinc diaiyldithiophosphate, zinc alkylaiyldithiophosphate and zinc arylalkyldithiophosphate. The molybdenum compound may be a carbamate, e.g., MoDTC but is preferably nitrogen-free, e.g., a carboxylate.

Foaming of a lube oil comprising a base stock derived from wax isomeration and an additive package is effectively reduced to within specification limits of 50 ml/ml over a temperature range of from at least 24.degree. C. to 93.5.degree. C. by adding to the oil an effective amount of an antifoamant exhibiting a spreading coefficient of at least about 2 mN/m. This has been found to be particularly effective in reducing foaming of lube oils containing a mixture of a wax isomerate oil and a petroleum oil fraction. Antifoamants typically used with conventional lube oils containing one or more petroleum fraction base stocks, but which do not exhibit a spreading coefficient of at least 2 mN/m with the wax isomerate containing oil, have been found not to be effective in reducing the foaming of the oil.
