A manifold assembly has been constructed that filters ink before the ink enters an inkjet ejector in an inkjet print head. The manifold assembly includes an adhesive layer having openings, an ink manifold layer having a plurality of openings, the openings in the adhesive layer being aligned with the openings in the ink manifold layer, and a polymer layer having a plurality of filter areas, the filter areas being aligned with the openings in the ink manifold layer and the openings in the adhesive layer, the adhesive layer being interposed between the polymer layer and the ink manifold layer.
Abstract:
A projection system includes a display apparatus comprising a plurality of tunable Fabry-Perot filters, each of the filters being configured for shifting between a state in which the filter transmits radiation in a bandwidth in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum and a state in which the filter transmits radiation in a bandwidth outside the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum. An illuminator provides light to the plurality of Fabry-Perot filters. A control system receives image data and controls the display apparatus to project an image onto an associated display surface. The control system includes a modulator which provides wavelength modulation signals to the plurality of Fabry-Perot filters to modulate a color of pixels in the image and causes selected ones of the Fabry-Perot filters to shift into the bandwidth outside the visible range to modulate the brightness of pixels in the image.
Abstract:
Microfluidic devices are prepared by providing a substrate material having a solid adhesive thin sheet, printing solid ink on the substrate using a conventional printer, selectively etching the substrate using a wax masking layer to obtain a desired pattern, removing the masking layer from the substrate, aligning and bonding together the pattern of the substrate to a pattern of a second substrate to form a layer of substrates, and curing the layer of substrates to result in a three-dimensional microfluidic device.
Abstract:
A method for bonding a polymer layer to an outlet plate for an inkjet print head has been developed that enables the polymer layer to be attached to the outlet plate with little or no bowing of the polymer layer. The method includes aligning recesses in a bonding plate with channels in an outlet plate, interposing a polymer layer between the bonding plate and the outlet plate, and pressing the bonding plate against the polymer layer to bond the polymer layer to the outlet plate.

A method for mounting a piezoelectric transducer layer to a diaphragm layer exposes an electrode for each piezoelectric transducer after thermoset polymer filling the interstitial space between the piezoelectric transducers has been cured. The method includes bonding a polymer layer to a diaphragm layer having a plurality of openings, bonding piezoelectric transducers to the diaphragm layer, filling areas between the piezoelectric transducers on the diaphragm layer with thermoset polymer, and removing the thermoset polymer from the piezoelectric transducers with a laser to expose a metal electrode on each piezoelectric transducer.

An electronic device has an electronic signal source electrically connected to a signal routing circuit, an electrically activated transducer to receive electronic signals through the signal routing circuit, and an anisotropic conductive film to provide electrical continuity between the signal routing circuit and the transducer, the anisotropic conductive film having material removed adjacent the transducer to reduce mechanical loading of the transducer. A print head has a jet stack including an aperture plate having apertures arranged to allow passage of ink stored in the jet stack, a diaphragm arranged adjacent the jet stack so as to apply pressure on the ink stored in the jet stack, a transducer arranged to cause the diaphragm to deflect when activated, an anisotropic conductive film having material removed adjacent the transducer to reduce mechanical loading of the transducer, and an electrical interconnect formed from the anisotropic conductive film arranged to electrically couple the transducer to a signal routing circuit. A method includes patterning an anisotropic conductive film to form an array of openings or recesses, bonding the patterned anisotropic conductive film to a transducer side of a transducer array such that openings or recesses in the anisotropic conducting film are arranged adjacent each transducer so as to not contact the transducer in the region of maximum deflection, and bonding a signal carrying circuit array to a circuit side of the transducer array using the patterned anisotropic conductive film.
