    Abstract: A system for generating a prescription may include a capture module configured to capture information from a plurality of individual cards. At least one of the cards may include medical information including at least a medication and a dosage for a patient. The system may include an information processing module configured to generate a bitmap file associated with the captured information, extract at least a portion of the medical information from the bitmap file using optical character recognition, and assemble the extracted information to generate a prescription data file. The system may include a transmission module configured to transmit the prescription data file to a pharmacy.

    Abstract: A computer-based apparatus for dispensing a medication, including: at least one specially programmed computer; and, a medication device.     Abstract: A system for personalized packaging of prescription medication includes a processing device having a CPU and a user interface. The user interface is configured to receive input data related to at least one type of medication to be packaged, wherein the user interface communicates the input data to the CPU for processing. A dispensing system is in communication with the processing device, wherein the dispensing system is configured to be pre-supplied with the at least one type of medication and to dispense the at least one type of medication based on the input data communicated from the CPU to the dispensing system. Also included in the system is a printing system in communication with the processing device. A printing system is configured to generate a print of instructional data based on the input data communicated from the CPU to the printing system, wherein the print of instructional data includes data correspondingly related to the at least one type of medication dispensed by the dispensing system. A packaging system is in communication with the dispensing system and configured to seal the at least one type of medication dispensed from the dispensing system within the personalized packaging.

    Abstract: A breathing monitor and method for monitoring respiration, such as for detecting apnea events and/or preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome includes one or more variable inductance sensors that are configured to stretch and contract in response to breathing movements. Stretching and contraction are associated with an inductance change in the sensors, which are configured to alter a frequency of an oscillator circuit. The breathing monitor may also comprise a transmitter circuit coupled to a microcontroller or other processor that analyzes the frequency changes and sounds an alarm in the event that breathing ceases for a predetermined time period. The breathing monitor and associated sensor circuitry can be secured to a garment to be worn by an infant or other subject to be monitored.

    Abstract: An optically pumped semiconductor laser includes an active ring-resonator having two or more optically pumped semiconductor (OPS) structures each including a mirror-structure and a multilayer gain-structure. The mirror-structures serve as fold mirrors for the resonator axis. An optically nonlinear crystal may be included in the ring-resonator for generating second-harmonic radiation from fundamental radiation generated in the resonator. Another optically nonlinear crystal may be provided for generating third-harmonic or fourth-harmonic radiation from the second-harmonic radiation. In one example, including a third-harmonic generating crystal, a passive ring-resonator partially coaxial with the active ring-resonator is provided for circulating second-harmonic radiation to provide resonant amplification of the second-harmonic radiation for enhancing third-harmonic conversion. Apparatus for automatically maintaining the passive ring-resonator in a resonant condition for the second-harmonic radiation is disclosed.
