Described herein are partially fluorinated elastomers and methods of curing comprising (i) a fluoroelastomer comprising interpolymerized units derived from (a) at least one hydrogen containing monomer and (b) at least one nitrile containing monomer, and (ii) a curing agent, wherein the curing agent consists essentially of a peroxide and a coagent.

A curative composition includes a tetraalkylphosphonium or tetraalkylammonium cation and an anion represented by Formula (Rf)3CO−, wherein each Rf is independently perfluoroalkyl having up to 12 carbon atoms. A fluoropolymer composition includes the curative composition and a fluoropolymer. The fluoropolymer can be an amorphous, curable fluoropolymer with nitrogen-containing cure sites. Shaped articles including the fluoropolymer, a method of making a fluoroelastomer article, and a method of making the curative composition are also described.

Provided is a catalyst composition suitable for curing a fluoroelastomer, the catalyst composition comprising an anion of Formula III: wherein each Rf independently is selected from R—CF2 and a perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. R is selected from H, a halogen, an alkyl group having up to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having up to 8 carbon atoms, and a cycloalkyl group having up to 8 carbon atoms. The subscript n is a positive integer. The catalyst composition is free of hydrocarbon containing alcohol. In specific instances, Rf may be CF3.
