    摘要: A fuel injection pump serves to periodically inject fuel into an internal combustion engine. A movable control member serves to determine the quantity of fuel injected during each fuel injection stroke in accordance with the position of the control member. A permanent magnet is movable together with the control member. A stationary magnetically-permeable member serves to conduct magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet. The magnetic flux conducted by the magnetically permeable member depends on the position of the control member. A Hall element unit serves to sense the conducted magnetic flux and generate a first signal indicative of the actual position of the control member. A second signal indicates a desired position of the control member. A device, responsive to the first and second signals, serves to adjust the actual position of the control member to the desired position thereof.

    摘要: A fuel injection valve includes a valve body to which liquid to be injected is supplied. A nozzle tip is connected with an end portion of the valve body. A valve member is installed in the valve body to stop and start a supply of the liquid to the nozzle tip. The nozzle tip has first and second nozzle holes which are formed so that fluid injected through the first nozzle hole is collided with fluid injected through the second nozzle hole and that a ratio between a square root of a cross-sectional area of the first nozzle hole and a square root of a cross-sectional area of the second nozzle hole is within a range 1.25 to 3.5. Therefore, the collided fuel is effectively atomized as a result of a resonance phenomenon by the collision.

    摘要: First and second cam members are engageable in a fuel injection pump. A first device urges the first cam member toward the second cam member to obtain engagement between them. The first cam member reciprocates as it moves relative to the second cam member when the first and second cam members are in engagement. A plunger connected to the first cam member reciprocates with the first cam member. The plunger defines at least part of a pumping chamber which contracts and expands as the plunger reciprocates. As the pumping chamber expands in a fuel intake stroke, fuel moves into the pumping chamber. As the pumping chamber contracts in a fuel compression stroke, the fuel moves out of the pumping chamber. A second device resists movement of the plunger in the fuel compression stroke.

    摘要: In a diesel engine having a combustion chamber formed by a cylinder and piston where fuel is injected into the chamber directly, and provided with a device whereby part of the exhaust gas is recycled into the air intake depending on the running condition of the engine, a fuel injection valve is fitted to the head of the cylinder parallel to or coaxial with the cylinder axis and near the center of the combustion chamber. The valve lifts in two stages according to the fuel pressure so as to spray fuel evenly into the chamber and thus promote mixing of fuel with air. Fuel injection pressure is increased by a fuel pump which supplies high pressure fuel to the injection valve in synchronization with the engine revolution, and the residual pressure in the pipe which leads fuel from the fuel injection pump to the fuel injection valve is kept approximately constant by a pressure equalizing valve so as to avoid a secondary fuel injection. As a result, combustion is improved when exhaust gas is recirculated, and the emission of both NOx and smoke is reduced.

The engine has at least one cylinder and a reciprocating piston in the cylinder to define a combustion chamber. Combustion event in the cylinder is expressed in terms of two variables. They are main combustion timing (&thgr;50) and a main combustion period (&thgr;20-50). The main combustion timing (&thgr;50) represents a crank position when mass burnt rate is 50 percent. The main combustion period (&thgr;20-50) represents a period from a crank position when mass burnt is 20 percent to a crank position when mass burnt is 50 percent. Controlled parameters governing main combustion are varied to adjust the main combustion timing on an advance side of a retard limit (&thgr;50 max) and to adjust the main combustion period within a range between an upper limit (&thgr;20-50 max) and a lower limit (&thgr;20-50 min).
