摘要: In a 3-D image display device, a parallax barrier having a plurality of apertures is provided in front of an LCD element. Each aperture is equipped with a color filter of any one of red, green, and blue colors. The LCD element conducts monochromatic display, and hence, no color filters are provided therein. In the LCD element, regarding each color, a pixel group is provided at each position corresponding to the color filter of the color, the pixel group being composed of a plurality of pixels which are driven in response to an image signal corresponding to the color. With this arrangement, when the number of parallax images for a 3-D image is increased so that a fine 3-D image is obtained, the yield of the display element, and further, the yield of the 3-D image display device, can be improved. Besides, the cost of the device can be lowered.

摘要: A photoresist is applied to a first substrate made of glass or resin which has been subjected to alignment treatment. Next, the photoresist is exposed and developed by UV light so as to form a non-optical rotatory region in a stripe manner after a mask having a desired pattern is provided on the photoresist. Then, polymerized liquid crystal is applied or dropped on the substrate complex thus prepared so far after an alignment layer on the substrate is rubbed. Further, a second substrate whose surface has been subjected to alignment treatment is placed on the substrate complex such that the directions of the alignment of the two substrates are orthogonal to each other, and the substrate thus positioned is pressed against the substrate complex. Finally, the substrate complex is irradiated by the UV light to cure the polymerized liquid crystal so as to form an optical rotatory region, thereby completing an optical rotatory device.

摘要: Particles of a lens coating material for forming a primary film are deposited from a direction toward which the surfaces of the lens prisms of a Fresnel lens face. Next, a light absorbing film is formed, conventionally, by sputtering, on both the lens surfaces on which the previously deposited primary film was formed and on the non-lens surfaces (on which no primary film was formed). This light absorbing film is intended to absorb types of undesirable or "invalid" light (e.g., "flaring light"). Subsequently, the films are removed from only the lens surfaces. Accordingly, a Fresnel lens having "invalid" light absorbing films only on the non-lens surfaces is more easily fabricated within a shorter time and at a reduced cost. Moreover, it is also possible to reduce the generation of "cone" and "rainbow" effects caused by "flaring light" when the Fresnel lens is used as a field lens of a projection-type image display device.

摘要: A display device is provided in which reduction of reflected light is realized. Also a multilayer substrate is provided in which light reflectance is reduced even when the substrate has a plurality of layers that differ in refractive index from each other. In the display device of one embodiment, the reflectance of light reflected by the internal structure, of light incident on the internal structure through a display screen, is less than 1.0%. The multilayer substrate of one embodiment includes a first layer and a second layer disposed adjacently to the first layer. The refractive index of the second layer varies continuously from an interface where the second layer is adjacent to the first layer in a direction from the first layer, with the variation being started at a value of the refractive index at the interface where the first layer is adjacent to the second layer.
