    摘要: A medical tool for operating in a working volume of a magnetic position tracking system includes a first plurality of layers including an electrically conductive material and a second plurality of layers including an electrically insulating material and interleaved with the first plurality. The layers are arranged to reduce eddy current distortion in a magnetic field generated by the magnetic position tracking system. Another medical tool includes a core including a ferromagnetic material and an outer coating layer on the core. The coating layer includes a conductive material configured to produce eddy current distortion so as to cancel at least part of a distortion caused by the core in a magnetic field of the magnetic position tracking system. Yet another medical tool includes an electrically conducting loop-shaped element having an electrical discontinuity introduced therein, so as to reduce eddy current distortion caused by the loop-shaped element.

    摘要: A system for treatment of tissue, such as heart tissue, includes a laser source and a catheter having an optical waveguide which is operatively connected to the laser source. The catheter also includes a position sensor for generating position signals relating to the distal end of the catheter and an electrode for generating signals relating to the viability of the tissue. The system also includes signal processing circuitry for processing the position signals in order to determine position coordinates of the distal end of the catheter as well as the signals relating to the viability of the tissue for determining a viability map of the tissue. The system further includes a display for displaying the viability map.

    摘要: A catheter introduction apparatus provides an optical assembly for emission of laser light energy. In one application, the catheter and the optical assembly are introduced percutaneously, and transseptally advanced to the ostium of a pulmonary vein. An anchoring balloon is expanded to position a mirror near the ostium of the pulmonary vein, such that light energy is reflected and directed circumferentially around the ostium of the pulmonary vein when a laser light source is energized. A circumferential ablation lesion is thereby produced, which effectively blocks electrical propagation between the pulmonary vein and the left atrium.
