    摘要: Disclosed is a medical device susceptible of identification using interference patterns. A source signal may be directed from an energy source towards the surface of a device for reflection therefrom. An interference pattern may be detected from the surface of the device, such as by a sensor. A determination as to whether a match exists between the representation of the interference pattern and a stored representation of an interference pattern may be performed. If a match exists, the device may be identified based on the stored representation of the interference pattern. Otherwise, a representation of the interference pattern may be stored and a unique identifier may be assigned to the stored representation of the interference pattern.

    摘要: This is directed to an implantable multimodal neurostimulator having improved efficacy in treating epilepsy and other neurological disorders and to processes of using that neurostimulator. The neurostimulator itself generally has two modes of electrical stimulation: the first involves delivering a non-responsive electrical stimulation signal which is applied to the central nervous system to reduce the likelihood of a seizure or other undesirable neurological even from occurring, and a second mode that involves delivering electrical stimulation signal or signals when epileptiform waveforms are impending or extant. The responsive electrical stimulation signal or signals are intended to terminate epileptiform activity, e.g., to desynchronize abnormally synchronous brain electrical activity. Alternatively, the second mode may be used to deliver sensory stimulation, e.g., a scalp or sound stimulation, to the patient rather than deliver electrical stimulation to the patient. Finally, the implanted neurostimulator may be used by a physician to induce epileptiform activity and then verify the effectiveness of the parameters of the first and second neurostimulation signal or signals.

    摘要: Disclosed is a means and method for placing an implantable neurostimulator control module into a place in the cranium where cranial bone has been removed. The method for accomplishing this cranial implantation is by first removing a patient's hair over the site of the implant, then cutting the scalp at that site and pulling it back to expose the cranium. A neurosurgeon would then remove a portion of the cranial bone to accept a control module to be implanted within that hole. The control module would then be placed into that hole. It is also conceived that the control module would be fixed in place by the use of one or more attachment devices such as a multiplicity of bone screws placed through holes in one or more flanges that extend over the cranium beyond the control module. The implantation could also include a fairing placed around the control module to provide a smooth contour under the patient's scalp. Also described is a spacer shim placed under the flange(s) to adjust the position of the control module so that its bottom surface does not put pressure on the dura mater lying directly over the brain tissue at the bottom of the hole. It is also envisioned that a resorbable disk could be placed under the bottom surface of the control module to further protect the brain and/or to elute an anti-biotic or anti-inflammatory substance to reduce the possibility of infection and/or inflammation.

Each of the layers includes at least a first and a second electrically conductive sheets separated by a sheet in between. The layers each have a periphery having at least one alignment element, with the second sheet extending to the periphery along at least a portion of the alignment element, such that the layers may be engaged at the alignment element to register the layers during assembly.
