Protruding features having nanoscale dimensions can be created, e.g., by using self-assembled nanostructures as a shadow mask for etching a molding layer. In one embodiment, an imprinted ion selective polymer membrane, suitable for use as a solid electrolyte, is adapted for use in an electrochemical device or fuel cell by adding a metal catalyst to one portion of the membrane to serve as a catalytic electrode.

As such, an encapsulated pigment can comprise a pigment and a polymer encapsulating the pigment, where the polymer comprises a monomer and a RAFT reagent. Additionally, a method of encapsulating pigments can comprise dispersing a pigment in an aqueous solution to form a pigment dispersion, adding a monomer to the pigment dispersion, adding a RAFT reagent to the pigment dispersion, and polymerizing the monomer using the RAFT reagent in the presence of the pigment to form an encapsulated pigment. Further, the present disclosure provides ink-jet inks comprising the encapsulated pigments.

The laser surface roughening process allows the use of a wide range of substrates such as metals, ceramics, silicates, polymers and the like, including varieties which can not be fabricated in a fine fibrous structure. The surface roughened ion exchange system structure may be used as an ion-exchange media in applications such as fuel cells, batteries, and other catalysis systems where a high surface exchange area is desirable.
