    摘要： A fluid collection drape for use during surgery includes an impermeable liner, a permeable facing, and a substrate sandwiched between the impermeable liner and the permeable facing. The fluid collection drape is provided in a sterile condition and is sized at about 3 feet by 2.5 feet to substantially cover a width of an operating table. The substrate absorbs greater than about 500 cc of fluid. The fluid collection drape is stored in a sterile state within a package. The substrate has a thickness of about 0.05 inch.

    摘要： A sleeve for introducing a surgical instrument (e.g., a lipoplasty probe) into the body via a wound pierced in the skin, and an insertion device for making the wound and inserting the sleeve therethrough are provided. The sleeve reduces the transmission of friction and heat (e.g., caused by the highly repetitive in-and-out and rotational movements and ultrasonic vibration of the lipoplasty probe) to the skin of the patient. In addition, the size of the hole associated with insertion of the sleeve is significantly smaller and more uniform in shape than that associated with a traditional scalpel incision. By piercing the skin, rather than making an incision with a scalpel, and by reducing friction and heat transmission to the skin, the irritation, inflammation, flowering (i.e., curling up of the skin at the edges of an incision), and scarring associated with lipoplasty are minimized, and the cosmetic result of the procedure is improved.

    摘要： A device for delivering fluid, such as insulin for example, to a patient. The device includes an exit port assembly, a syringe-like reservoir including a side wall extending towards an outlet connected to the exit port assembly. A threaded lead screw is received in the reservoir and a plunger has an outer periphery linearly slideable along the side wall of the reservoir and an inner periphery threadedly received on the lead screw. The plunger is non-rotatable with respect to the side wall such that rotating the lead screw causes the plunger to advance within the reservoir and force fluid through the outlet. The device also includes a dispenser having a return element for causes rotation of the lead screw, and a shape memory element. A changeable length of the shape memory element decreasing from an uncharged length to a charged length resets the return element.

The device includes a flow path having an exit port assembly adapted to connect to a transcutaneous patient access tool, and a reservoir connected to the exit port assembly. The device also includes a flow restriction system having an air removal filter communicating with the flow path and allowing air to exit the flow path and preventing fluid from exiting the flow path, and a flow restrictor positioned within the flow path between the air removal filter and the exit port assembly. Among other features and advantages, the flow restriction system of the present invention allows the flow path of the fluid delivery device to be purged of air, or “primed” prior to operation, such that desired volumes of fluid can be accurately delivered by the device.
