    摘要: A protected microbiological sampling brush assembly includes a sampling brush mounted on the distal end of a control wire, an inner catheter which houses the brush, an outer catheter which houses the inner catheter, and an elastomeric tip which is rigidly attached to the distal end of the outer catheter and which has a weakened end. The proximal ends of the control wire and catheters are coupled to a handle for independently moving the control wire, the inner catheter, and the outer catheter relative to each other. The weakened end of the elastomeric tip is preferably a slit which defines lips which are parted when the distal end of the inner catheter is moved distally against the elastomeric tip to allow the inner catheter to pass therethrough. When the inner catheter is moved proximally relative to the outer catheter, the lips of the elastomeric tip close to protect the inner catheter (and the sampling brush) from contamination. Easy to use handles which are attached to the proximal ends of the control wire, the inner catheter, and the outer catheter are disclosed.

    摘要: A trocar catheter includes a trocar rod having a stepped diameter distal end for use with a catheter having a stepped diameter lumen wherein the trocar is inserted into the lumen of the catheter and the trocar is used to incise a patient and install the catheter after which the trocar is removed from the lumen of the catheter. The distal end of the trocar rod is provided with a stepped coaxial bore into which a piercing point rod, a spring and a safety sleeve are assembled. The piercing point rod has a proximal small diameter portion which is press fit into a correspondingly small diameter portion of the coaxial bore in the distal end of the trocar rod. The spring is carried on the small diameter portion of the piercing point rod and biases the safety sleeve in a distal direction. The distal end of the piercing point rod has a larger diameter portion tapering to a piercing tip and the safety sleeve has a stepped inner diameter which prevents it from moving beyond a predetermined distal position covering the piercing tip. The stepped coaxial bore has a large diameter portion for receiving the safety sleeve when it is pressed proximally against the spring. A protrusion on the distal outer surface of the safety sleeve prevents the catheter from accidentally slipping off the trocar.

    摘要: An endoscopic irrigation instrument includes a fluid chamber, a cannula coupled to a distal end of the fluid chamber, a tapered irrigation tube which couples at its proximal end to a fluid source and which couples at its distal end to an irrigation port of the fluid chamber, and a pinch valve which controls the flow of fluid from the irrigation source to the fluid chamber and hence through the cannula to the surgical site. The tapered irrigation tube is arranged so that it has a first relatively larger constant inner diameter and relatively larger wall thickness on its proximal end until it tapers down in both inner diameter and wall thickness at a location slightly proximal the pinch valve. By the time the tapered irrigation tube passes the pinch valve in the endoscopic instrument, the tapered irrigation tube is at a second relatively smaller constant inner diameter and a relatively smaller wall thickness. The tapered irrigation tube thus enables greater fluid flow, pinch valve control at the thin distal end, and tube reliability at both high and low fluid pressures.

    摘要: A method for manipulating ions in an ion trap includes storing ions, spatially compressing, and ejecting selected ions according to mass-to-charge ratio. An ion trap includes an injection port, an arm having a first and a second end for confining and spatially compressing the ions, and an ejection port for ejecting the ions from the second end. The arm includes two pairs of opposing electrodes, which provide a quadrupole electric field potential at any cross-section of the ion trap. The distance between opposing electrodes and the cross-sectional area of the electrodes increases from the first to second end. The electrodes may be tapered cylindrical rods or of hyperbolic cross-section. Ions selected for ejection are spatially compressed into a region at the second (wider) end. The ion trap may include one arm, with either orthogonal or axial ejection, or two arms with a central insert for orthogonal ejection.

    摘要: The present invention is a method and system for investing with a no or low-loss assurance the aid of an agent. The invention provides a plurality of risk levels having a gain apportionment value and a lost apportionment value. The gain apportionment value dictates the apportionment of a gain between the investor and the agent, while the lost apportionment value dictates the apportionment of a loss between the investor and the agent. Each risk level also has a gain sale threshold and a loss sale threshold. The investor selects one of the risk levels. When one of the sale thresholds is reached, the equity is sold to complete a cycle or transaction of a combo, or combination of transactions. The investor's apportioned gain is added to an investor's money packet thereby increasing its value. A loss sale threshold ends the combo. The loss is apportioned between the investor and the agent according to the loss apportionment value of the selected risk level and the investors apportioned loss is subtracted from the money packet.
