摘要： Coating compositions based on stable aqueous dispersions of particles of vinylidene fluoride polymer are prepared by bringing into admixture unstabilized particles of vinylidene fluoride polymer, liquid organic active solvent for the vinylidene fluoride polymer, liquid nonsolvent, which may be liquid organic nonsolvent, water or a combination of liquid organic nonsolvent and water, and, if not present in the liquid nonsolvent, water. The mixing is conducted such that the particles of vinylidene fluoride polymer are wetted by the dispersion vehicle, yet the particles are not substantially solubilized by the active solvent.

摘要： A composition for passivating a metal substrate is provided. The composition is prepared by mixing together: a) Group IIIB or IVB metal compound; and b) a reaction product of an epoxy group-containing polymer or oligomer, a hydroxy functional acid and a dialkanolamine. The compositions, which are substantially free of chrome, are used to treat metal substrates prior to the application of a protective or decorative coating.

摘要： An improved process for providing corrosion protection to ferrous metal substrates is disclosed. The improved process involves a first treating of the surface of the ferrous metal substrate with nitric acid followed by directly applying to the previously treated surface a zinc-rich coating composition. Upon curing the zinc-rich coating composition, an adherent electroconductive coating is formed. The coating provides excellent corrosion protection and since it is electroconductive, the coating is weldable and can accept a subsequent electrocoat.

摘要： A curable coating composition is disclosed comprising a resinous binder comprising (a) a reaction product of an epoxy-containing polymer with a compound containing phosphorus acid groups, the reaction product having reactive functional groups, and (b) a curing agent having functional groups reactive with the functional groups of (a). An electroconductive pigment is dispersed in (a) such that the weight ratio of the electroconductive pigment to (a) plus (b) is within the range of 0.5 to 9.0:1. When the curable coating composition is deposited and cured on a metal substrate, the cured coating is weldable.

摘要： A method for determining the thickness of a dryable or curable film-forming coating by incorporating a fluorescent component into the coating. The fluorescent component is either a resin solid of the coating, a fluorescent dye or a fluorescent dye attached to a resin solid of the coating. The coating is exposed to ultraviolet or visible light which causes the fluorescent component to fluoresce. The intensity of the fluorescence of the coating is measured and the thickness or weight of the coating is determined from a known mathematical relationship between the fluorescence intensity of the coating when exposed to the light and the thickness or weight of the coating. Additionally, a curable or dryable film-forming coating composition including a curable or dryable organic resin reacted with a fluorescent tag is provided.

摘要： Zinc phosphate aqueous coating compositions containing tungsten and using an accelerator which is an oxime, hydroxylamine sulfate or a mixture thereof are disclosed. The accelerators are environmentally friendly and stable in the acidic environment of zinc phosphate coating compositions so as to enable formation of a one-package system. The tungsten component avoids the use of nickel or cobalt ions in the compositions which are environmentally objectionable.
