    摘要: An electron-beam-pumped laser includes a cathode ray tube containing a laser crystal, an electron gun for producing an electron beam including a multi-element focusing electrode layer on an inner surface of the tube for effecting focusing of the beam on the laser crystal, and a multi-element deflection electrode layer on an inner surface of the tube for effecting scanning of the beam across the laser crystal. The laser crystal is disposed on a metal heat-conductive support which is adapted for accurately positioning the laser crystal in closely spaced relationship with respect to the electron gun and to a laser light emitting window of the tube.

    摘要: An electron-optical device comprising a cathode ray tube with an envelope comprising an electron gun for producing an electron beam, whose inner surface carries a multi-element layer electrode such as a helical structure formed from a high-ohmic resistance material, which structure constitutes a focusing lens. A deflection system is used for moving the focused electron beam across a laser crystal arranged in the tube. Due to the laser action of the crystal, a scanning laser is realized. The laser light leaves a window in the tube envelope. The window extends at an angle between 20.degree. and 60.degree. to the longitudinal axis of the tube which is parallel to the electron beam incident on the laser crystal. Used in, inter alia, projection tubes and electron beam-pumped lasers (for example, scanning lasers).

    摘要: A multi-view display (49) is arranged to provide large viewing zones (23, 24) while producing little or no cross-talk. The display may include a barrier (20) comprising a plurality of colour portions (20a, 20b, 20c) that co-operate with colour filters (19a-19f) in a display panel (14) to selectively direct light to the viewing zones (23, 24). A lenticular screen (30) may be arranged to create or image light lines onto imaging units (32a, 32f) of the display panel (14) that are spaced from one another, so that adjacent units (32a, 32f) are illuminated by light from different lenses (30a, 30b, 30c), directed towards different viewing zones (23, 24). A light source (35) may generate the light at positions aligned with boundaries between adjacent lenses (30a, 30b, 30c). The imaging units may be operated so that units (32a, 32b) displaying information for the first viewing zone (23) are separated from units (32d, 32e) displaying information for the second viewing zone (24) by units (32c, 32f) not used to display information. Adjacent columns of units (32a, 32b) may be used to display information to one viewing zone (23). The viewing zones (23, 24) may be enlarged using a scatterer (36). A switchable diffuser (40) or barrier (48) may be provided so that the display (49) can operate in different multi-view and/or single view modes.

    摘要: A display (8) comprises a display panel (9), a polariser (10), a polarisation rotator (13), and a scatterer (12) arranged to scatter light having a first polarisation as compared with light having a second polarisation. The display (8) can be switched between 2D and 3D modes by operating the polarisation rotator (13) accordingly. In 3D mode, the polarisation rotator (13) transmits light with relatively little or no change to its polarisation. Light transmitted by the scatterer (12) is then used to present a three-dimensional image (50). In 2D mode, the polarisation rotator (13) alters the polarisation of the light and light that is scattered by the scatterer (12) is used to present a two-dimensional image (51). The polarisation rotator (13) maybe arranged so that light incident on a first area thereof undergoes a different change in polarisation to light incident on a second area, in order to allow simultaneous presentation of 2D and 3D images (51, 50).

    摘要: A display comprises a display panel, a polarizer, a polarization rotator, and a scatterer arranged to scatter light having a first polarization as compared with a second polarization. The display can be switched between 2D and 3D modes by operating the polarization rotator. In 3D mode, the polarization rotator transmits light with relatively little change to its polarization. Light transmitted by the scatterer is used to present three-dimensional images. In 2D mode, the polarization rotator alters the polarization of the light, and light that is scattered by the scatterer is used to present a two-dimensional image. The polarization rotator may be arranged so that light incident on a first area thereof undergoes a different change in polarization to light incident on a second area, to simultaneously present 2D and 3D images.

The first and second directions are essentially opposing directions and the first and second directions are essentially perpendicular to the direction of extension of the microstructure.
