摘要: Several embodiments of lubricating and breather systems for outboard motors that provide effective oil separation and which permits the blow-by gases to flow in a direction the same as the lubricant return to the lubricant tank so as to avoid flow restriction. The blow-by gases are then discharged to the atmosphere through a conduit that is separate from any of the lubricant return conduits. Oil separating arrangements are disclosed as are various positions for the oil separator including in the cam chamber of the engine or in the lubricant tank.

摘要: An insulator supports a plurality of charge formers on the end of an intake manifold. The insulator, made in part of elastic material, thermally decouples the charge formers from the engine to reduce conduction of engine heat to the charge formers. Expansion of the intake manifold due to heat deforms the insulator, without substantially moving the charge formers so as not to deform a linkage which interconnects the charge formers.

摘要: A mounting arrangement for an accelerator pump and a choke actuation mechanism, which are used in conjunction with a plurality of charge formers, minimizes the girth of the engine while making these components more accessible and easing assembly. An actuator and a choke solenoid of the choke actuation system are mounted proximate to one another and partially between adjacent induction pipes of an induction system. This position allows these components to be located on an exterior side of the induction system without interfering with the protective cowling of the motor. The accelerator pump is mounted at the end of a series of charge formers, proximate to a throttle linkage which controls throttling devices of the charge formers. This position of the accelerator pump eases the installation of this component without increasing the girth of the engine.

摘要: A throttle linkage system for synchronizing the movement between a plurality of throttle valves journaled in throttle bodies affixed to a common member that includes a link that has the same coefficient of thermal expansion as the member to which the throttle bodies are connected so as to avoid synchronization problems due to different thermal expansions. In addition, the linkage system is such that it accommodates manufacturing variations from the more remotely positioned throttle valves by providing a structure for permitting relative movement.

摘要: A number of embodiments of V-type outboard motors including 4-cycle engines with a exhaust system being disposed between the cylinder banks so as to simplify the exhaust manifolding and permit it to flow downwardly directly to the exhaust pipe in the driveshaft housing lower unit so as to reduce engine height. Various porting and cooling arrangements are disclosed. The induction system for the engine is disposed on the outside of the engine and a variety of induction systems and throttle control arrangements are also disclosed.

摘要: A linkage system interconnects a plurality of throttle shafts, while minimizing the effects of thermal expansion in the linkage on the throttle shafts. The linkage includes a plurality of linkage rods which interconnect a plurality of throttle levers attached to the throttle shafts. At least a first and a second linkage rod are connected to a first lever in a manner in which thermal expansion of the first linkage rod applies a force to the first lever which is equal but opposite to a force applied to the first lever due to thermal expansion of the second linkage rod.

摘要: A ventilation system is provided for an engine crankcase of a marine outboard motor to distribute blow-by gas generally equally to each cylinder while minimizing the size of an intake silencer of the system. The intake silencer includes a first expansion chamber into which the blow-by gas is introduced from a blow-by gas camber attached to the cylinder head. The blow-by gas diffuses and mixes with ambient air which is drawn into the first expansion chamber through an inlet port of the induction system. The air/blow-by gas mixture is then drawn into a second expansion chamber where it distributes generally evenly before induction into a charge forming device.

摘要: An outboard motor includes a housing unit and an engine. The engine defines a first exhaust passage and a first lubricant passage. The first exhaust passage generally extends on a first side of the outboard motor. The first lubricant passage generally extends on a second side of the outboard motor opposite to the first side. An exhaust guide member is coupled with the housing unit to support the engine above the housing unit. An exhaust conduit depends from the exhaust guide member within the housing unit. The exhaust guide member defines a second exhaust passage connecting the exhaust conduit with the first exhaust passage. The second exhaust passage generally extends on the first side. A lubricant reservoir depends from the exhaust guide member within the housing unit. The exhaust guide member defines a second lubricant passage connecting the lubricant reservoir with the first lubricant passage. The second lubricant passage generally extends on the second side. The engine and the exhaust guide member together define a first water passage extending in the vicinity of the first and second exhaust passages. The engine defines a second coolant passage extending from the first coolant passage toward a location in the vicinity of the first lubricant passage.
