A method for covering a roof comprises the steps of applying layers of self-adhering sheet material prepared from an uncured heat seamable polymeric composition of matter comprising blends of polyolefins, semi-crystalline polyolefins and crystallinity enhancing polymers to the roof being covered; overlapping adjacent edges of the layers; heating the overlapped areas to about the softening point of the sheet material and seaming the overlapped areas under sufficient pressure to provide an acceptable seam strength. For practice of the method, the composition of matter is self-adhering, without the use of an adhesive.

A method for covering a roof comprises the steps of applying a thermoplastic film (14) to the edge (12) of at least one layer of a flat rubber sheet material (10); applying a second layer of flat rubber sheet material (11) overlapping the thermoplastic film and the edge of the first flat rubber sheet material; heating the overlapped area to a temperature slightly above the peak melt temperature of the thermoplastic film; and, seaming the overlapped area under sufficient heat and pressure to provide an acceptable seam without the use of an adhesive.

A substituted polybutadiene polymer and a composition containing the polymer which is suitable for use in a flat sheet material such as a roofing membrane is disclosed. The polymer has a superior filler capacity, excellent flame resistivity and acceptable heat aging properties, especially heat aged elongations. The composition, which includes the polymer of the present invention and from about 5 to about 160 parts by weight of a filler material per 100 parts polymer, is self-adhering without the use of an adhesive and is heat seamable to produce seams which are resistant to temperatures as high as 100.degree. C.
