摘要: A microbiological sampling device has inner and outer catheter tubes with a specimen sampling brush within the inner catheter body. A plug of water soluble material closes a distal end of the outer catheter body to prevent contamination of the inner catheter body and the brush during introduction into an organism, as for example, when placed in the lungs. The plug can be ejected and the sampling brush extended within the lungs to enable the brush to collect uncontaminated bacteria samples which are brushed into the inner body whereupon the entire assembly can be withdrawn. The plug protects the specimen sampling brush during introduction and is readily dissolvable avoiding unwanted biological problems, yet sealing the assembly against contamination.

摘要: An optical system for detection of atmospheric ice particles is described. The optical system includes a laser light source configured to emit laser light, a photodetector, a first lens element and detection electronics. The first lens element is arranged to image light from the laser light source onto a measurement volume, and to direct scattered light received from the measurement volume to the photodetector. The detection electronics is connected to the photodetector, and is configured to receive a light detection signal from the photodetector and to indicate whether or not the atmospheric ice particles exist in the measurement volume based on the light detection signal.

摘要: A device for measuring relative viscosity includes a fluid reservoir, a stirrer, and a sensing system. The stirrer has two members, with one member being more bendable than the other. When the stirrer is moving, the sensing system detects a differential bend between the members; the differential bend is related to the viscosity of a fluid in the fluid reservoir. The sensing system includes two spaced sensors which detect when magnets on the members pass the sensors. A timer provides a time lapsed between passage of one of the members past a sensor and passage of the other member past the other sensor. The time lapsed is related to the viscosity of the fluid in the fluid reservoir. A controller automatically controls the addition of a solvent to the fluid within the fluid reservoir; the addition of the solvent is dependent on the time lapsed.

摘要: A railway traffic control system in which accurate vehicle information is effectively available in real-time to facilitate control of traffic flow. Unlike prior art methods of precisely monitoring train location, the current invention is dependant only on equipment on-board the vehicle and position updates provided by external benchmarks located along the track route. The system's dynamic motion capabilities can also be used to sense and store track rail signatures, as a function of rail distance, which can be routinely analyzed to assist in determining rail and road-bed conditions for preventative maintenance purposes. In presently preferred embodiments, the on-board vehicle information detection equipment comprises an inertial measurement unit providing dynamic vehicle motion information to a position processor. Depending on the amount and quality of apriori knowledge of the vehicle route, the inertial measurement unit may have as many as three gyroscopes and three accelerometers or as little as a single accelerometer. To minimize error between benchmarks, the processor preferably includes a recursire estimation filter to combine the apriori route information with movement attributes derived from the inertial measurement unit.

摘要: Apparatus for soldering and desoldering an electronic component to or from a printed circuit board includes an alignment station and a soldering/desoldering station. The printed circuit board is mounted upon an adjusable X-Y table which can be indexed between the alignment station and the soldering/desoldering station. To align an electronic component with respect to th PCB, a vacuum pickup device is operated at the alignment station to pickup and support the component within an optical field of view above the PCB and the X-Y table is adjusted in X, Y and .theta. directions with respect to the component. Upon alignment of the component, the pickup device is lowered to temporarily adhere the component to the PCB by an adhesive flux. Thereafter, the X-Y table is indexed to a preset position below a hot air soldering nozzle and the component soldered in a known manner. A rotary device for shearing a defective electronic device from a PCB is also attached to the bottom of the soldering/desoldering nozzle.
