Abstract: An intelligent subsystem coupled with a Super System on Chip (SSoC)/microprocessor, a radio transceiver, a voice processing module/voice processing algorithm, a display component, one or more camera sensors/computational cameras for three-dimensional (3-D) sensing of the surroundings, a near-field communication device, a biometric sensor, an artificial eye, a biological lab-on-chip (LOC)/DNA sequencing biomodule, an intelligent learning algorithm and an algorithm for three-dimensional (3-D) perception is disclosed. The Super System on Chip (SSoC) includes memristors. The intelligent subsystem can respond to a user's interests and/or preferences, provide telepresence and perceive the surroundings. Furthermore, the intelligent subsystem is sensor-aware or context-aware.

The intelligent subsystem can (i) respond to a user's interests and/or preferences and (ii) provide a peer-to-peer transaction. Furthermore, the intelligent subsystem can be sensor-aware or context-aware.

Abstract: A wavelength tunable laser includes: a heating layer, a dielectric layer, reflectors, a transport layer, a support layer, and a substrate layer. The heating layer is located above the transport layer; the transport layer is located above the support layer, and the transport layer includes an upper cladding layer, a waveguide layer, and a lower cladding layer from top to bottom; the reflector is located in the transport layer; the support layer has a protection structure, where the protection structure forms a hollow structure together with the transport layer and the substrate layer, and the hollow structure has a support structure; and the substrate layer is located below the support layer. The heating layer, the reflector, and a part of the transport layer form a suspended structure to prevent heat dissipation. Thus thermal tuning efficiency can be improved, and power consumption can be lowered.

Abstract: According to the present invention, a semiconductor device includes a substrate comprising a front end face, a rear end face and side faces, a plurality of semiconductor lasers provided on the substrate, a forward optical multiplexer to multiplex forward output light of the plurality of semiconductor lasers and output the multiplexed light to the front end face, a backward optical multiplexer to multiplex backward output light of the plurality of semiconductor lasers and output the multiplexed light to the rear end face and a plurality of backward waveguides connected to an output section of the backward optical multiplexer, wherein the plurality of backward waveguides includes a main waveguide disposed at a center of the output section and a plurality of lateral waveguides disposed on both sides of the main waveguide to bend toward the side faces and output light from the side faces diagonally to the side faces.

Abstract: A two-section semiconductor laser includes a gain section and a modulation-independent grating section to reduce chirp. The modulation-independent grating section includes a diffraction grating for reflecting light and forms a laser cavity with the gain section for lasing at a wavelength or range of wavelengths reflected by the diffraction grating. The gain section of the semiconductor laser includes a gain electrode for driving the gain section with at least a modulated RF signal and the grating section includes a grating electrode for driving the grating section with a DC bias current independent of the modulation of the gain section. The semiconductor laser may thus be directly modulated with the modulated RF signal without the modulation significantly affecting the index of refraction in the diffraction grating, thereby reducing chirp.

Abstract: A method of controlling a wavelength tunable laser to control an oscillation wavelength based on a difference between a detection result of a wavelength by a wavelength detecting unit and a target value, the method includes: acquiring a first drive condition of the wavelength tunable laser to make the wavelength tunable laser oscillate at a first wavelength from a memory; calculating a second drive condition to drive the wavelength tunable laser at a second wavelength by referring to the first drive condition and a wavelength difference between the first wavelength and the second wavelength, the second wavelength differing from the first wavelength; and driving the wavelength tunable laser based on the second drive condition calculated at the calculating of the second drive condition.
