摘要: An absorbent packet for absorbing carbon dioxide at a rapid rate from a closed container, such as a package or can containing coffee and water vapor, including a porous envelope containing calcium oxide and a hydrating agent, such as silica gel with water adsorbed therein. The water vapor from the container permeates the envelope at a relatively rapid rate because of the affinity of silica gel for the water vapor in the container, and the silica gel becomes supersaturated and gives off water. The carbon dioxide from the environment also permeates the envelope because of its concentration outside of the envelope and because of the pressure gradient between the outside and inside of the envelope. The water given off by the supersaturated silica gel combines with the calcium oxide in the envelope to form calcium hydroxide. The carbon dioxide and the calcium hydroxide react to produce calcium carbonate and water. Any other suitable metal oxide may be used, including but not limited to the oxides of sodium, potassium, magnesium and barium. Also other hydrating agents may be used instead of silica gel.

摘要: A controlled rate adsorbent unit including an adsorbent and a heat-shrunk casing of porous material having a predetermined water vapor transmission rate encasing the adsorbent for prolonging the water vapor adsorption time of the adsorbent. The controlled rate adsorbent unit may be in the shape of a recording disc or it may be in the shape of a three-dimensional solid with the heat-shrunk casing stretched tightly thereover. A method of fabricating a controlled rate adsorbent unit including the steps of providing an adsorbent material, heating the adsorbent material to dry off moisture therefrom, providing a porous material having a controlled water vapor transmission rate, sealing the adsorbent material in a casing of the porous material, heat-shrinking the porous material about the adsorbent, and storing the sealed adsorbent material in a moisture barrier package.

摘要: An oxygen-absorbing composition which will not absorb appreciable amounts of oxygen from the atmosphere during formulation and handling including a mixture of an oxygen-attracting component A, an aqueous electrolyte-impregnated component B, and a water-attracting component C which has a greater affinity for water from the electrolyte-impregnated component B than the oxygen-attracting component A and a greater affinity for water vapor from the atmosphere than the oxygen-attracting component so that the aqueous electrolyte from component B cannot appreciably react with the oxygen-attracting component A to absorb oxygen from the atmosphere during the time that water-attracting component C attracts water from component B and attracts water vapor from the atmosphere. A packet with a window therein for viewing the composition to determine whether, by change of color, it has absorbed oxygen. A method of formulating an oxygen-absorbing composition described above wherein the components A, B and C are mixed in the atmosphere shortly before packaging.

摘要: A self-retaining adsorbent cartridge having spaced adsorbent containers attached to each other at their inner ends by a yoke and having tab-like latch structure on their outer ends, the latch structure consisting of a flexible resilient latch member formed at the outer end of one of the adsorbent containers and a second latch member having an aperture therein for receiving the first latch member in locking engagement so that the spaced adsorbent containers will be secured in side-by-side relationship with a bend in the yoke. A self-retaining adsorbent cartridge having tab-like latch structure extending outwardly from opposite edges thereof for encircling conduits in a refrigerant receiver and binding the adsorbent cartridge thereto.

摘要: An adsorbent device including a porous casing containing adsorbent for placement between spaced pipe portions in a refrigerant receiver with the outer edge portions of the casing bearing against the spaced pipe portions, the adsorbent device including a clip having tabs at opposite ends thereof bonded to tabs on opposite sides of the casing, clip portions on the ends of the clip including a first U-shaped portion extending substantially in the direction of the body of the clip for loosely bracketing one of the pipe portions, and a second U-shaped portion extending substantially perpendicularly to the body of the clip for snapping onto the other pipe portion to thereby hold the casing of the adsorbent device between the spaced pipe portions. The clip is oriented relative to the casing so that the clip portion which snaps onto the pipe always extends substantially perpendicularly thereto, regardless of which pipe portion it snaps onto when the pipe portions are not parallel to each other.

摘要: An oxygen-absorbing label and a moisture-sensitive label. The oxygen-absorbing label consists of a base sheet, adhesive on the base sheet for securing the base sheet to an internal surface of a container, an oxygen-absorbing composition on the base sheet, and a permeable cover sheet secured to the base sheet to confine the oxygen-absorbing composition therebetween. The moisture-sensitive label is one wherein a moisture-sensitive material is used as part of the label instead of the oxygen-absorbing composition. The moisture-sensitive material may be a moisture adsorber such as silica gel or molecular sieve, or it may be a moisture supplier such as hydrogel. A plurality of the foregoing labels are mounted on a web to be used with conventional labeling equipment.
