摘要: A NOx occluding and reducing catalyst 20 is provided in an exhaust gas passage of an engine to occlude the NOx in the exhaust gas of a lean air-fuel ratio. The engine is provided with an injector for directly injecting the fuel into the combustion chamber, and the fuel fed by a fuel pump into a common rail with pressure is injected. The additive containing a sulfur-solidifying agent that forms a solid sulfate upon the reaction with sulfur in the fuel due to combustion, is injected into the common rail from a tank due to a pump, and is supplied into the combustion chamber through the injector together with the fuel. When the condition of the atmosphere of the NOx occluding and reducing catalyst is the one where the NOx in the exhaust gas is little absorbed, the ECU adjusts the discharge amount of the pump, and decreases the amount of the additive injected into the common rail or interrupts the injection. This decreases the consumption of the sulfur-solidifying agent.

摘要: To provide a catalytic converter that reduces non-uniformity of temperature of a catalyst support and that can approach a uniform temperature distribution, and a structural body for supporting a catalyst that structures this catalytic converter. At a catalyst support, gradually decreasing width portions, at which a width thereof gradually decreases toward electrode centers, are formed at regions where electrodes, are contactingly disposed, as seen in a cross-section orthogonal to a direction in which exhaust flows. The width is shorter than a length of a center line at a given position. Heat generation and heat dissipation of the catalyst support are balanced overall.

In the exhaust gas purifying apparatus, the upstream catalyst removes NOx, and then an oxygen-activating component is supplied to the exhaust gas. Further, the downstream catalyst removes a hydrocarbon compound contained in the exhaust gas.

摘要: The present invention relates to an exhaust gas purifying apparatus comprising; a plasma-assist PM purifying reactor; a detecting device for detecting an amount of PM accumulated in the PM purifying reactor; a power supply for the PM purifying reactor; and a controlling device for controlling the power supply on the basis of signals from the detecting device. The controlling device controls the power supply to start supplying the electric power to the PM purifying reactor, or to increase the amount of electric power which is supplied to the PM purifying reactor, when the amount of accumulated PM detected by the detecting device exceeds a predetermined amount.

摘要: A device for controlling an internal combustion engine comprises a device for trapping particulate matter (PM) in exhaust gas in an exhaust passage, means for supplying ozone to the particulate matter trapping device from the upstream thereof to oxidize and remove PM deposited in the device, and means for interrupting the fuel injection of the internal combustion engine upon the execution of ozone supply by the ozone supply means. It is possible to prevent components consuming ozone, such as NOx, from being contained in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, whereby ozone is effectively usable.
