摘要:
A hot-melt ink for use with an ink jet printing apparatus is a liquid at about 100° C. to about 130° C. and solidifies to a two-phase solid having an elastic phase and a crystalline phase. The ink is formulated from a carrier, a first plasticizer, a linear block copolymer, a block copolymer plasticizer, a flow additive and a colorant. The block copolymer plasticizer, in combination with the linear block copolymer forms an elastic phase of the ink upon solidifying. The first plasticizer exhibits sufficiently low viscosity at elevated temperatures to permit ejection of the liquid ink from the printing apparatus. A method for producing indicia is also disclosed.

A surfactant selected from an acrylate-modified polydimethylsiloxane or a polyether-modified polydimethylsiloxane is used, together with at least a colorant and a UV-curable organic diluent, in a non-aqueous UV-curable ink composition suitable for ink jet printing. The use of this type of surfactant prevents the ink composition from causing the loss of more than 5% of the nozzles in an ink jet print head and enables the composition to provide a hole to area ratio of no more than 0.05. The present ink compositions have particular application in the printing of packaging for foodstuffs.

A method for electroless plating of metal on a laser-patterned substrate. A substrate is provided on which both a thermal imaging layer and catalytic layer are deposited. On exposure to a laser beam, sufficient levels of radiation are converted to heat in the thermal imaging layer to render the exposed regions of the adjacent catalytic layer inactive. The laser-patterned substrate is then exposed to a reaction solution which initiates the growth of a metal film on the unexposed regions of the catalytic layer.
摘要:
Disclosed is a method of forming on the surface of a substrate a first solid layer which is suitable for activating a chemical reaction to form a second layer thereon, the method comprising the steps of: applying to the surface of the substrate a first liquid comprising a curable composition and an activator for the second layer-forming chemical reaction; and curing the curable composition, thereby forming a first solid layer adhered to the surface of the substrate, capable of activating the second layer-forming chemical reaction. A second layer can then be formed on the substrate by bringing into contact with the first solid layer a second fluid comprising components of a second layer-forming chemical reaction, activated by the activator, thereby causing a second layer to be formed on the first solid layer.

A method and apparatus for precisely applying radioactive material to a substrate such as a brachytherapy device is disclosed. A radioactive fluid adapted to cure rapidly is deposited as discrete dots onto a surface with a fluid-jet printhead. The apparatus comprises a fluid-jet printhead in communication with a chamber containing radioactive fluid to be applied by the printhead. The printhead is microprocessor driven, and the microprocessor may be provided with feedback from a station where the radioactivity deposited on a preceding substrate in a batch is measured, permitting the system to be recalibrated on an ongoing basis as the batch of printed devices is produced. Compensation for attenuation of radiation by a casing may also be made part of the feedback technique. Also disclosed is a brachytherapy device having printed on a surface dots of radiation-emitting material, in a pattern comprising various bands, dots or areas. Fluids suitable for printing by a fluid-jet printhead comprise a binder such as an acrylic resin or silicate, and a radioactive salt, compound or complex, dissolved in a radiation resistant solvent. Alternative fluids comprise radioactive salts, compounds, or complexes adsorbed onto a microparticulate carrier, or elemental microparticles, dispersed in a rapidly curable radiation-resistant fluid medium.

A contact of a component is electrically connected to an associated contact of an electrical circuit, typically formed on a substrate, by depositing material between the contacts, the material forming or being processed to form an electrical connection between the contacts. The invention also provides apparatus for this purpose and a resulting circuit.
