    摘要: Device for determining the size of a blind void comprises an elongated rigid rod, an actuator slidably movable relative to the rod, the actuator having a distal end for insertion into the void, a distal flexible element fixed at one end thereof to the rod, a second flexible element fixed at one end thereof to the rod and proximally removed from the distal flexible element. Movement of the actuator is operative to cause equal movements of the distal end portions of the distal and proximal elements, to cause the distal element to bulge outwardly from the rod to engage interior walls of the void and to cause the proximal element to bulge outwardly in a configuration duplicative of the distal element bulge, the proximal element being outside of the void and subject to observation.

    摘要: A method for emplacing a medical anchor in a borehole in biological tissue, the method comprising the steps of providing a borehole in the biological tissue, inserting the anchor into the borehole with a tool such that the anchor is affixed to the tool and in approximate alignment with the borehole, manipulating the tool, the step of manipulating the tool causing the anchor to pivot about an axis perpendicular to the borehole and further comprising rotating the anchor in the borehole about the axis of the borehole, thereby causing the anchor to move outwardly in the borehole to engage a wall of the borehole and cut into the wall of the borehole and secure the anchor in a final position in the borehole such that the anchor is disposed approximately perpendicular to the axis of the borehole; and removing the tool from the borehole by moving the tool proximally in the borehole, thereby separating the anchor from the tool and leaving the anchor secured in the borehole.

    摘要: Surgical apparatus including a support rod having proximal and distal ends; at least one articulated finger at the distal end of the support rod; a handle at the proximal end of the support rod, the handle having a finger grip adapted to be actuated by the hand of a user; a connecting member connecting the finger grip and the finger; a thumb being disposed at the distal end of the support rod opposite the finger, a spring biasing the finger toward a retracted position; and the finger being responsive to a tension in the connecting member exerted by movement of the finger grip whereby the finger moves in a defined manner toward the thumb for grasping an object. In a modified embodiment, a plurality of fingers are provided for opening up an internal space in a body or to grasp a body part to facilitate other surgical procedures.

    摘要: A suture throw holder, rundown tool and cutting system for running one or more throws formed in two lengths of suture extending from a surgical site down to the surgical site so as to form a knot at the surgical site and for blindly cutting the suture ends adjacent the knot. The system comprises a support mechanism for releasably supporting a plurality of throws in a predetermined arrangement adjacent a surgical site, and a tool for removing throws from the support mechanism, running the throws down the lengths of the suture to the surgical site, and blindly cutting the suture ends at substantially equal lengths every time adjacent a knot formed by the throws at the surgical site.

    摘要: A delivery device for depositing an exogenous fibrin clot into a wound site during an arthroscopic surgical operation. The delivery device having a tubular body and plunger. The body including a large internal diameter collection chamber and a small internal diameter ejection chamber with an internal frusto-conical transition chamber positioned therebetween. The plunger having a rear tamping knob on one end and an ejection tip on the other end. The rear knob having a matching frusto-conical portion used for tamping the fibrin clot material from the collection chamber into the ejection chamber. The tip of the plunger being insertable into the injection chamber to push the fibrin clot material out of the delivery device. The plunger also having a forward stop knob which limits the depth of insertion of the plunger into the body. The tip of the plunger when fully inserted extends axially beyond the end of the ejection chamber. A method of depositing a fibrin clot material into a wound site during an arthroscopic operation is also disclosed.
